15% VAT from today at OcUK

In a couple of years i wont care, house will be paid off and i dont have any dept. Might be a reasonabley priced i7 mobo for sale by then :) as well.

Doesn't matter if you have no debt, income tax and national insurance will be going up, especially for high earners. 45% top rate here you go!

Yeah great idea, no ones out spending as they have no money, so the Govt. decide to drop tax by 2.5% to get everyone out spending money, anyone spot the flaw in that plan there. :p

so good luck in a couple of years when tax, insurance etc... etc... is all ramped up when the Govt. want the extra debt they have now put us in from the 2.5% cut back.

Not that i'm going to argue over a couple of quid, but I thought it worth mentioning that the order I placed this morning seems to have had 17.5% vat charged, not the 15% stated.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but here are the calculations copy/pasted from the email confirmation:
Sub Total: £78.29
Shipping: £7.99
Total Vat: £15.07
Total inc Vat: £101.18

Well by my calculations its wrong either way :

(78.29 + 7.99) x 1.175 = 101.379
(78.29 + 7.99) x 1.15 = 99.222

And my wages will go up proportionately, ive not paid any VAT since March as ive been out of the country. Personally, the drop in VAT and low prices on the high street suit me down to the ground. Im not looking to buy another house and my 1 year old car is paid for. If i hit 45% tax then my wages will compensate. Im even getting over $1.70 to the pound so as ive said for me, no problem.
Also remember that there is a global recession, its not just the UK and other countries are far worse off, check out the African stock and money markets. Im by no means a Labour voter but this gamble could pay off and if it doesnt then we wont be alone in the world.
Utility companies, now thats a different matter, and dont forget ive been paying full Council Tax for the last 8 months while ive been 4000 miles away from the nearest rubbish bin.
I think maybe OCUK smelt a VAT cut coming, have most prices risen about 2.5% in the last week or 2 ;)

well the way i see it the prices have gone through the roof anyway for pc parts now,be a long time before i upgrade again

True that, I just priced up a rig that I built, about, just over two months ago, it's £85 more expensive now :\

A few friends of mine where waiting to buy a new machine, and it's got to the stage where the rigs have been totally reconfigured, to adjust for the price hikes. And the fact that a few of them are out of work.

We are screwed :)

Same here, i set a £1400 budget for my new rig and have just adjusted my specs to compensate for any rises, some items have gone up in price and some have come down (if you know where to look). Saving £45 on a Tj07 has compensated for the rise in RAM price, and ive dropped from 8GB to 4gb, i'l just add some more later if the price drops.

I thought the exact same thing.. Yawn..

If someone is buying a keyboard then it is basically nothing, but if they are purchasing an entire 1000 pounds worth of PC gear, then I imagine they are pretty happy with any saving that can be made.

I am always astounded how people somehow whine/aren't happy with something free. I don't expect someone to be kissing Spie's feet, but mentioning "yawn" when he is offering a great discount (great as in its a nice generous offer, not as in a massive saving" is a little poor in my opinion.

I was considering buying people a truckload of a cheese to help them with all the whine (helps to bring out the flavour apparently) they was going through when the free shipping came about, you give someone something for free and they then want more and more, I don't know what people expect sometimes, we pay for the shipping but the item is free? OCUK pay the VAT themselves and we get it at 0 percent Vat?

I think people were having a moan about the chancellor not OCUK as OCUK would have to implement this pricing by monday anyway, it just makes good business sense to do it now.

The chancellor's idea of getting people out spending by offering them a £2.50 discount on every £100 they spend is hardly going to make them get off their butts and start shopping now is it? whilst costing the economy a small fortune to put in place not to mention costing businesses time and money going through and relabelling everything (if some of them even bother).
