What do you want out of a new MMO?

All the "sandbox" MMO's are absoloutely shocking quality, terrible animations/interfaces general lack of polish in all aspects.

Why won't someone make a Sandbox style MMO with WoW style quality?

i think Hellgate London on a WoW scale would be ****ing awesome.

would be hard to be specific about every detail though, theres just so much that one could add to a MMO.

So why do you **** of WoW? I **** of Warhammer because of the poor game that it is, i am not really slagging of it's content since i only reached level 10 on it. I found the animations crap, the game ran like crap even on low, and it just generally did not feel like a quality game when controlling my character.

Thats a very strong accusation. Tell me, can you give me an example of me slagging off WoW? Not an example of me explaining why WoW isnt the right MMO for me, but an example of me actually slagging it off.

I mean I think I have always been pretty fair in my opinion of WoW, I even believe I have said multiple times that I quite enjoyed it when I played it but that its had its time for me, I honestly dont recall a time (although I could be wrong) where I have slagged off the game itself (as opposed to stating that it doesnt fit with me). As I say though, if I am wrong in that belief and I have slagged off the game itself, specifically WoW not just modern MMOs (which is a wider argument I have with MMOs), then do feel free to show me.

In fact I think you will find that I have even recommended WoW to a few people on here who have asked what would be a good first MMO, or at the very least I have recommended trying the trial. Hardly the act of someone who slags off WoW. Are you sure you arent just being a little overzealously defensive?

Hell, lets even open this to the wider audience, perhaps we could make a forum game out of it. Everyone reading this thread, feel free to check the post histories for both Chris_uk333 and myself, form your opinions of which one of us is the one who is often jumping into MMO threads to post negatively about the MMO and the peoples choice of MMO and/or harping on about how great "their" MMO is. Make it a little forum game, see how many people think its me thats doing that a lot and how many people think its chris_uk333 doing that. Maybe we could have a christmas prize for the winner :)

Warhammer 40k mmofps DONE RIGHT!

I think another MMOFPS is long overdue, Planetside is looking more than a little dated (It wasnt pretty when released but it was good)

M.A.G. on the PS3 is the only game even coming close to the idea and thats wishful thinking on my part.
Huxley has been cut back and back and is almost 3 years late.

So much win! :D

Only thing I can think of that is remotely different to what people have said would be more immersion for guilds.

Make it worthwhile to have a successful guild, let big guilds take over towns and villages in the game. Let them create their own outposts at places where people can rally and meet. Guild members get discounts at the stores in their outposts/towns, and sell things at a higher price.

Kind of playing on the "everything you do has a reaction or consequence"... When a player is doing very well at PvE quests in a certain area, and I mean very well... that area should create a most wanted list (so to speak). If I was to kill an enemy player called "Zerg" who had been completing quest after quest near a town that my side controls, I should be rewarded for it...

It means that players can't stay for too long in one area doing Q after Q after Q, if you do you get a small exp bonus, but when you die the person that kills you gets a larger bonus of cash/loot/renoun/experience (whatever) and you will lose a small part of yours :)

When i pvp (all i play mmo's for) i want to actually GET SOMETHING FROM IT, rather than a couple of pvp experience points or whatever, i want dieing and living and killing in pvp to really matter, like losing all your gear your wearing when you die and the person who kills you to get it. This gets your heart racing and makes it so much more exciting than losing nothing if you die and gaining nothing apart from 'i killed you' feeling which quickly becomes a grind...

SWG had the greatest crafting and resource gathering system ever. If that could be emulated and incorporated into a game with player cities, housing and entirely player driven economy, combined with a raid and dungeon setup something like WoW, then I would be in heaven.

A completely open, none leveling system essentially ends up having no story, having the players write their own lore, how boring that would be for most people to read it.

mate, you obviously never played UO then.. there is a reason it was the game that pretty much put mmo's on the map and a reason it still gets subs 10 years later. While i can agree its not your thing and you want to follow a storyline, i think your being a little narrow minded or dare i say it hypocritical. Not once in my time of playing UO was i bored, none of my characters were ever the same..not having classes meant i could experiment on my own. For things to do you made your own stories, or joined in on battles/guild wars /tournaments. Heck, you even had to be careful going to buy your latest weapon coz it could get stolen off of you. I know id rather that variety than the excitement of doing the same encounters 5 hours a day 4 times a week...thats boring imo

in other words, people like different things, enjoy your spoon fed game :P

EDITED like 10 times coz im crap at not sounding sarcastic or good at putting my point across lol

An MMO based in the Battletech Universe.

Mix it with the universe of EvE and add some mech on mech action on the planets. Oh and dont add huge capital ships.
And have PvE content too. As in working for a faction that involves defending planets/buildings etc. Or even invading places.
You can customise your Mech, your ship, your uniform.

Ahh the possibilites.

Would make a change to the constant DnD style MMOs.

Agreed!!! I was going to post the same thing!

Would be cool if it was set up like Mechwarrior:Mercenaries so you could upgrade your mech & weapon systems. Also your clan = your guild, would be neat.

Id also really like to see a Space combat/trading MMOFPS, that has the gameplay of the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series, that would rock - and give me an excuse to bust out the joystick again!

any of these will do me fine

Asherons Call 3

Now that I would like to see but based on the current AC. AC2 was rubbish (and bugged to hell).

I want to be able to dodge spells/projectiles by physical action and not sume number generator.
I want to be able to have a skill based system so everyones unique (i.e. put XP into run and you run faster, put XP into strength and you can carry more).
I want a game where you can go and explore and is immersive. No loading screens, no instances. No waiting for 20 people to do one quest where you have a 3% chance of getting the loot and have to do it over and over again.
I want good graphics but not at the expensve of the game. I want to be able to run as fast as hell from one place to another no trudging around in a way to make people think the world is bigger than it is.
