Spec me a silent psu please

i used to have a zalman psu but the 80mm fan started whining so ended disconnecting it. zalman took forever to send a replacement fan

personally would avoid zalman

What about Hiper? Are they are a reliable maker?
Lots of (major) failures couple of months/years ago. Don't know how they fair now. But the price can give away the quality of components used inside, e.g. compare similar spec with say one from Enermax or Corsair i.e. they are not 'overpriced' for no reason.

I'd personally go with a 650W BeQuiet! one.

I think some people have bitched about the components they have used... but hmmm!

Dont think u will find anyone on these forums recommending a Hiper, however, I dont recall hearing anything bad about OCZ or Akasa, just that they arent top of the range but u get a discounted price accordingly.

Try doing some research before posting. They all have 120mm silent fans and heatpipe cooling now. They are a superb psu.

What about Hiper? Are they are a reliable maker? I'm also looking for a PSU and was looking at the Hiper 580w.

Do a search for exploding Hipers. They are one of the worst models available. The latest batches don't seem to be any better either as there was a large amount failing a few weeks ago.

silent - all quality Fanless psu's are quietest - silverstone, Yesico (ideal for systems under 250w) FSP zen can squeal at higher loads

near silent - semi fanless (hybrid) psu - Zalman HP (great a 50% load - less so above)
Bequite have lesser electrics that some feel are not worth the risk.

high quality fan psu's - enermax 82+, Corsair

duel card gaming only use third option.
Non/light gaming or silent/HTPC system (and you have the money) fanless psu
everything else - 82+, Corsair, Zalman in that order

The SPCR link above is very usefull

Personal I have a 550w Yesico in my near silent (pesky raptor) fanless system.

I have an Akasa, is a really quiet PSU and pretty cheap, but if you have more I'd probably recommend a Corsair.

Thats not to say Akasa aren't reliable though, I've owned around 3 Akasa PSU's, only reason I replaced them was because my system needed more power ;p

Edit: TX is not standard ATX size (as are some of the HX's they are longer)
VX is Standard ATX PS/2 size: 150mm(W) x 86mm(H) x 140mm(L)

HX also modular
