GTA IV DRM

Sounds fine, at least they don't have an install/activation limit :)

I don't see a problem with it, you can't expect game developers to just distribute games with no protection, or simple protection these days.

Why not the ones that rip them off do?

Why not just keep the cash instead of paying software companies to create codes that are easily broken.

People will just use cracks anyway.

My DVD drive sounds like a tank when running :(

Yes, I do realise this.

The point I was making is it's the ones who will download will do it REGARDLESS of any DRM/protection on the (any) game. They are always the ones that moan and groan when the protection is put there and then use it as the reasoning behind the downloading.

I buy legal but I still moan and groan about DRM.

No fun when you want a game of FSX to find that because you haven't played it for months MS want to check that you are still you so you spend 30 mins jumping through hoops to play a game you bought for 60 quid :(

Of course it'll be cracked, people have huge teams to crack this kind of security, but adding decent security to a game will stop the every-day average user from bothering to crack/download an illegal copy of the game.

You could just get it off Steam if your excuse for cracking it is because your drive is noisy :)

Dunno but these screenshots look rather blurry to me - I was expecting more.

Looks like they've just gone a little OTT with the bloom/HDR. Should look better with them off.

I've canned my preorder. Just can't imagine GTA IV PC offering enough to keep me interested over the PS3 version that got boring very quickly.

I'll wait for the mods etc to come out, then buy it.

In the meantime, I've placed SR2 on preorder, simply because it looks more Grand Theft Auto than GTA IV did, which looking back was just a pompous vision fest and not much else.

Has anyone seen the review in PC Format, who can explain what they mean by this?

'doesn't respect the PC much' ?

I think people are think its gonna look like a totally different game on the PC. But tbh i dont think it will look that much different to the console versions. Sure the res will be higher and have less jaggies, but the same problems that the other GTA's on the PC will be there like pop-in and texture loading. Going by the specs as well it looks very intensive due to the physics engine, so most people may not be able to run it at full pelt.

Just my opinion of course :) I don't have the game early or anything :D

Boo ******* hoo. The only people this sort of thing seems to wind up are the ones looking to download it illegally.

Not exactly, I bought a retail copy of ARMA and it turned out that the protection systems (I believe SecuROM) it uses is incompatible with my DVD drive, so it was impossible to play without either using a crack (putting me in a slightly dodgy position when playing online), or replacing my DVD drive. I didn't care about protection systems before that but now I do, and it puts me off buying products with DRM.

GTA-IV is one of those games which looks better in motion than actual screenshots. Having said that the console versions had terrible technical issues with FPS drops, popin & blur filters used to hide the hardware shortfalls. I'm hoping the PC fixes all this on a Quad Core + GTX260-216 but the gameplay issues will remain as the design is flawed and lacking what the other GTA games had.

Even then still worth picking up as it has its moments and tearing around on a bike/car through a vast hi-def city does give you the feeling of freedom to do whatever you want even though you can't.

From memory 99% of the buildings you cannot enter and unlike the earlier games no incentive to collect money either as you can never buy a safe house to save games you are only given safe houses for completing missions.

Oh right, you mean you're refering to people who use the DRM as an excuse to download it?

Yes, as though it's some kind of justification for them doing it. That's all. I also appreciate there are a lot of people on here that do buy their games and annoyed by some of the DRM restrictions that they sometimes face.
