I have mine this Saturday, and just wanted some opinions on what the "Hazard Perception" part was like?

Also do you find out whether you have passed afterwards, or you do receive a letter short afterwards?

Many Thanks :)

Easier than any of the practice videos. I passed having driven a car for about 2 hours before in my life.

easy, but I would recommend you try the mock stuff as above, gives you an idea how it works. There's an official CD with every question and answer for the multiple choice and a dvd with some practice videos which are scored. For the questions there were a few I wouldn't have known and could have got wrong guessing if I didn't go through them, but I got 50/50 in the end :D

probably more suited to the Motors forum btw :)

they usually print out your results about 2 minutes later, or thats what they did 6 years ago

and still do.

I've done it twice, The first time it expired.

I would really really reccommend grabbing some program from the intermawebs, or picking one up at competitor or another high street store.

The test is easy, but the format is slightly odd, you click every time you see a developing hazard, the earlier you click the higher the score.

This can mean that you'll click a lot because youve clocked something early, but it turned out to be nothing many times in one clip, but if you do it too may times you will get 0 for "cheating"

I did the demos and it prepared me but i still got 0 for cheating on my first two clips, after that I got a feel for what was too much and passed the rest.

I have the CD and have been doing practice tests so I'm confident about the multiple choice aspect, just there is only one "test" of hazard perception on the CD, so wasn't sure what to expect.

Thanks for the replies :)

I didn't even know there was a hazard perception test until it came up on the screen during the actual test, total piece of ****.

See this thread:

Quoted a couple of the good bits :)

The theory is the easy bit, its multiple choice ! If you really don't know then narrow it down to 2 answers and use logic and think SAFETY and guess. With the hazard Perception test,

see children - click,
see lorry coming the other way - click,
see junction - click,
see lots of park cars - click,
see traffic lights - click,
see the sun - click,
see a corner coming - click
see animals - click

Basically anything that can causes you to change your speed or direction - click.

Quick H/P tips:

When your on a motorway, watch for trucks or cars merging into your lane and also merging onto the motorway as these will cause you to sloow down, I don't know many other hazards you'd get on a motorway, unless someone slowed down for some reason, but the first two are usually what you get.

You should get one of these - when in a narrow road (enough for 1-1.5 cars but not two) LOOK AHEAD, I can almost guarantee you a car will come oppersite and you will need to stop, this is more of a reaction (click twice with small space, as it's possibe to click before the 5,4,3,2,1 window opens)

Watch for kids, there is one were they are running and they run to the crossing, but don't cross, they are running as if they are going to run out onto the road <-- t'was the harzard.

Zebras count as harzards too, if someone steps out, it's a click IIRC. Red lights don't.

Cyclists and horse riders too. Oh yeah and look for people reversing or turning around in the road.

Basically if someone causes you to stop or slow down OR change direction it's possible that it's a hazard. Do a mock test of the H/P as without one you may probably fail.

You should click if you think it could be a danger, you wont lose points, although if you click too many times (I think it's something like 7-10 that's considered the cheat zone) you fail that video,

The first part is easy, it's stupid questions like what to do if someone crashes or road signs, most are common sense and since you use these forums I suppose you have some. :) - providing you've revised this (THC is good, actually very important for this so are mocks) you should pass.

The H/P is some hit and miss, anyway I hope you pwn it. Seems forever when I did mine, I barely rememeber.

These helped me before I did mine. I got 50/50 on theory and 61/75 on HP.

Did motorbike theory test and fairly easy, did abit of revision and got 50/50 on questions and then something like 64 on the hazard perception.

You get the answer as soon as you come out and go up to the desk, they tell you there and then weather or not you have passed and pass you out a form and a cert.
