Grand Theft Auto 4

you sound quite angry, calm down :)

i'm one who's miffed at the spec for this game, and I'd class myself as a pc gamer.

sure my spec isn't out of this world

q6600@3ghz
8gb ddr2
8800gt

but if it can say L4D at all settings on max and have awesome fps, why can't they get gta4 to be at least on the same playing field
well left 4 dead is based on a old engine that scales well where as gta is a new engine so dont think the 2 compare well

will pick gta up later and have a look

No SLI support again:mad:

Crossfire/SLI
With the latest ATI driver (8-11 series) the game supports crossfire modes (ie. 4870x2)
SLI is currently unsupported. Support will be added through a future game patch as well as an updated Nvidia driver.

I guess my 9800GX2 will only run on half a card then

I'm i the only one that thinks people maybe be expecting a bit too much from this game? Just because its a console game people assume there pc should be able to run it at max settings highest res.

The game engine seems to have a lot of work to do, in the read me they have explained it all and said high settings higher res is for future hardware. Its not like crysis where they claimed it would run on current pc hardware. They could have properly said something from the outset and save people pre ordering it and been dissapointed. But from what i can tell the the reccomended specs should run the game at medium settings which should look better then the console juding by the read me ?

They could properly spend time and get it optimized for todays hardware its true, but how long would that take. They have had years to work with console hardware and they get to work with the tech before it even comes out and even then it had frame rate issues on the consoles. But pc hardware is constantly changing and its very hard to keep up with.

Think of the game as a investmeant it will get better with time, as your pc gets better the game will get better.

I wont be getting it till the sli support as been added however :) but i'm really tempted to get it now just to see how it runs

Have you ever played Crysis? If so you'll notice how the graphics are massively superior and so is about everything else...

re

i had this game on the ps3 the day it came out,its not that good as its the same old as all other gta games, even though i loved and completed the other games, this one is easier and smaller than the others...i think the gta games have run there course nowadays,,,"its the same room with the same surroundings, except a new lick of paint has been applied" zzZZzz

Anyone received their copy from jersey yet i hope it comes today as it was posted yesterday.

Reports are that they oversold preorders and those not on the first batch will take up to 5 days.

I should have a copy later. I will be doing some testing on my average rig to see what I can come up with. Gotta drive to Wrexham and back fthis afternoon first.

I decided to get it on Steam in the end, despite the high cost because I don't think I'd get it for some time otherwise and I'm impatient to try it out. It's still gonna take most of a day to download though. Plus I guess not needing the disc in the drive will be handy.

I've just bought this from a gaming shop in Canary Wharf. They didnt have it on display and I had to ask the assistant for it. She had to look it up and ask the manager who got a copy from out the back. So much for the sales rush!

Yeah, but it runs Crysis at medium/high and Grid and Far Cry 2 at high/vhigh at that res.

And all of those 3 look significantly better than GTA.

Understood - I don't mean 320meg is too little per se to run at that resolution, just that GTA has bloated hardware requirements.

The graphics card might be of little importance compared to the CPU anyway - I mean the graphics aren't anything particularly special to look at so perhaps a reasonably powerful GPU + a good amount of VRAM is all you need, provided you have a good quad CPU.
