Hey All,
I have been trying for the last couple of months to get into London for work and away from Southend (So not too bad of a commute). Now I am getting knocked back mainly due to lack of experience; I left Uni 2 years ago but stayed on at my current job, just moving internally. I have been very successful internally however and gone up 7K in just over 1 year and jumped 2 bands of the hierarchy.
I have recently had a phone call from my Manager with a job offer of another Band increase and a jump of 5K in wage to just over £25K. However this Band level means you can't claim for overtime (the company bought out overtime from this Band and above years back, was all agreed by the Union and things) - obviously they're are other benefits in place of overtime, but none that really interest me!
But I am torn between taking this position or still trying to move to London (but worried about the current state of affairs of jobs coming and going and the fact it could mean another year before I have enough experience). Do both I hear you say... well the Manager in question has been highly supportive of me over the last 18months and has been a god send, and it is role supporting her and if I get it and move after a few months it wont go down well. Discussing it with her she said if I still want to go London then don’t go for it because she needs someone that will be able to support her long term (her long term is 12months+), I advised it would certainly keep me there for another 12-18months (credit crunch crisis should be more "settled" by then in terms of jobs I think) and it increases my experience even more.
So I am very tempted by it, just wanted an external view!
Oh and before you say “Loyalty is nothing, just do it” I am not that type of person especially when someone has really helped me with opportunities and person issues in the past!
