First of all Rolex watches don't cost £20-30K, they can do, but the majority aren't that expensive.

You are not supposed to just buy a Rolex watch, it is a status symbol and something you buy when you are doing well financially. I know I want one several years down the line.

They are worth it because of the guarantee and servicing on them. My Dad had a Rolex Daytona, and he never had to pay to get it serviced etc. They are just gorgeous pieces of engineering and time keeping. Of course you aren't buying it to keep time. You are buying one like an "achievement" to score a point in your life, it might be that £10,000 bonus or something going well in business.

Replicas are just that, they are not real. You will know it, and it will eat away at the core of your soul knowing; your a fake Rolex wearing person. I am not sure how good fakes are now, but back in the day fake Rolex watches did not sweep.

Yeah.. Just save mate and buy a real one.

Another thing

They say that a saphire crystal cant be scratched unless you have a diamond? Is this true? Am positive I can scratch mine with a knife and a bit of force
You could probably scratch it if you really tried, I've tried to run a key across mine and it couldn't scratch it after the guy in the jewellers showed me it with his, it just slides off. I also wear mine every day during all activities, it's coming up to 7 years old now and there isn't a mark on the crystal at all.

Because some people aren't gypsies.

Because some people aren't stupid enough to spend hundreds, if not thousands on a watch where a replica would look and act identical and cost far less.

It should be said I'm not a watch enthusiast but I can never understand those who spend so much money on such a trivial thing.

I'm not a watch enthusiast, but I can completely understand those who spend so much money on such a trivial thing, like I do with computers and computer parts. And I'll pay for quality. Not rob it like a *****.

I just don't get this atitude. If you're not into watches why would you want to pretend you are, by buying a fake? Purely to pretend you spent money you didn't? People who buy fake watches are being fake and are posers - it is blindingly obvious. The answer is clear, if you love watches buy a watch you love, if you don't love watches buy something practical and mass produced, but don't do yourself the diservice of having a fake.

For me, it depends on your reasons for buying a product.

If you crave purely asthetics or what others will think if they see you with the product, then yes, I guess a fake would be fine.

But some people don't buy based on what the product says about themselves. They buy for the products properties and quality and a replica will never offer these.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd really like an Omega Seamaster but it's not something I can justify purchasing right now. As a result I wear a Casio instead - a fake Omega wouldn't offer the levels of quality which attract me to the genuine article so whats the point?

Krug Vintage or Blue Nun? (Pictures removed)

One is a luxury one is a commodity. Both do a job but in very different ways and their value to you as an individual will be different based on your own circumstances. A nice watch is a luxury and can't be justified based on the role it does as telling time can be done for pence. You either get it or you don't. A fake watch says more about the persons aspirations than someone wearing a swatch if you ask me. I want to be seen as something I am not, or I want to be seen as frugal with different priorities. The latter I can fully understand the other one I struggle with.

Many pay a lot because of the complexity of engineering, creativity and artistry in one small container. It's not only about how it looks and what it does. It is also about the ownership of a thing of wonder.

I dunno man. Would you buy a Nvidia 7800 that pretends to be a 280GTX?

A Rolex is stunning inside, though you will never see the insides of it they are so intricate and well made. Its like buying a Thai bride innit, you might pretend its your real loving wife, but she is a soul-less subjugated sex object used for your enjoyment and not the real thing..

Everytime my dad goes away with work to China he comes back with a few of replica watches for the family. Look fine to me -Provided you spend £30+ on a replica they are usually fine. The clasp on my rolex is bit crap though.

Anything to do with watches and money on these forums always seems to cause problems, why I just don't know.

I spend (apparently) stupid sums of money on watches but why should you care? It's my money and I can do what I want with it. I like watches the same way my girlfriend likes handbags and shoes!

Rotty what do you think of Bremont by the way. Yes they're new and a bit overpriced for the movements they use but I do love the packaging!

Its all about image, if people think the fake watch is a genuine then you have saved yourself x amount of money and got exactly the same result you would have had with a genuine, and if people think its a fake, well it is! so no loss lol you can only gain!

but I don't care what anyone else thinks, only what I think

they are still relatively new to the UK so haven't paid much attention to them, tried one on once and seemed very well made
