Grand Theft Auto 4

Ive been downloading this from Steam for 2 days at 30kbps... on a 100Mbps Uni line, their servers actually suck balls- terrible service! Not to mention the fact that every few hours I'll get a 'This Game Is Currently Unavailable' error message, and will then start again from 0% >.>

Complete waste of money and effort to be honest. /fail.

Agree with Craig on AA. Id rather have AA right now than increased res (im not running at native because it reduced texture to low, which was a joke).

I take it drivers will sort this out? were not talking about 'this engine doesnt support AA blah blah' ive been hearing from nearly ever UT3 engine game?

You sure it's STEAM servers? I downloaded from their Midnight the day it came out (when a lot of people would have been downloading) and I got my usual 230kb/s.

Quite sure, yes. I downloaded CS:Source and Left 4 Dead at between 3.0 and 8.2Mbp/s... now this download, 30-150kbp/s!

If the performance issue is fixed by rstar and or drivers, i can only dream that some modder out there can make a incar camera so i can drive like i do in tdu i reckon the gfx for car interiors are good enough for this. Would make immersion loads better for me.

Just unlocked the second island (21% through). Feels like I've done it quicker and easier than previous times on the console. And whoever said that 'Times Square' is a real strain is wrong. I don't see a dip in performance at all.

I'm honestly not exaggerating when I say I stopped playing the PS3 version of GTA IV because I could barely see anything.

I admit I haven't seen the PC version in person but I would rather have jaggies than BLUR O VISION

i bought the PS3 version on launch day
went up to tesco at midnight and all

ended up selling because it ran poorly

i have a powerful pc (Q6600 @ 3.6 260GTX 216 4GB ram) and the PC version runs about the same and looks worse cause of the "jaggies"

you think you would prefer "jaggies" to the blur but trsut me you wont :(

Possibly the one bit of good news. I was really struggling with some of the "chase me" missions on the PS3 and actually threw the towel in after being unable to catch the motorcycle in "I Want Your Boots, Clothes & Motorcycle". The "chase" in the early mission where you have to folllow Dardan (?) to the docks seemed a tad easier on the PC. It will be interesting to unlock the Jacob courier missions as the times on some of those were almost unbelievably tight on the PS3.

I had a few hours online earlier tonight, I really loved GTA4's online on my 360 so I was really looking forward to trying it now that Social Club is finally letting me log in. Only problem was that to get a steady 35fps or so I literally had to put everything on low (E8400 @ 4GHz, 4GB DDR2, 4870 at stock) if I wanted to keep my 1920x1200 resolution. Looked completely gash and everything faded in 2ft in front of me.

Definitely was just as fun as on Xbox Live though, gameplay wise. Probably more so as I didn't have to avoid auto-aim servers, or constantly listen to 12 year-olds calling me the 'n' word even though I'm white.

I still have my Q6600 here but I really don't feel like taking my computer apart just to see if I get 5fps more in what is undoubtedly the most utterly dire, half-arsed port I have ever played in my entire life...

This game looks far better than the console, the Vaseline Vision is slightly less and gets rid of some jaggies as the PS3 version had no AA as well, I refuse to use the Vaseline Vision though, it's pathetic.

Those shortcuts really don't work, I cant be doing anything wrong.
