Grand Theft Auto 4

Great, guess both GPU's need to see the same image of ram, but both cant access one 512MB at once so they had to mirror it. This must apply for dual card SLI setups too?
I cant wait for the new GX2 hopefuly it will have more ram.

GTA is a pretty great game, looks good, just driving in the car and having to use the mouse is tricky. The cars handle great, its better than NFS Undercover :p

any ideas how a q6600 @ 2.4, and a 4870x2 will handle this game? :(
Clock it up to around 3GHz and you should be happily playable at 1680x1050 on medium texture/high rendering.

With my CPU back down at 3.2GHz, its perfectly happy at that, and I only have the "lowly" 3870s.

whats the command line to over ride the graphics settings limit? some one posted somewhere in this thread n i fancy giving it a go :p though dont fancy searching through 50 pages for it ;)

EDIT - Found it :) ...\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions

Apparantly there is a *COUGH* out which bypass's the protection , rockstar said this game couldn't be cracked :D. Users report a FPS boost by using it!

To be honest the fact GTA 4 runs better on a quad core isn't really surprising. Consoles like the PS3 are multicore nowadays aren't they?

No one answered my question earlier about Steam. If I get GTA from Steam does it mean I won't have to install all the extra Live/Rockstar apps?

[email protected] here with 4870x2 and I get the RESC10 crash, which is out of VRAM ? Thats the only crash I have and that on Auto settings with a 1GB vram card :/

I had the same bug on my GTX280 with 1gb or VRAM! Set it to auto configure.. Played for 5mins then I got that crash, looked it up and saw it was an out of video memory error!

im sure you will get no probs
saying that there are people with quads and 280's having major issues.
its hit and miss

i have no apps running in background, nada ! and it plays very very nice for me

oh and for those of you who are happy with it and just want to go on the rampage xbox cheats work on this too. guns guns, big guns !

No, I have it on Steam and you still have to install all that stuff.

maybe they should have spent less time and effort on the protection and spent more on improving the game!!!!

wouldn't surprise me if that's what makes the game run badly

"O hey guyz, we'z made uber protection stuffs that will stop nasty peoples getting our game free, it ruins the game but that doesn't matter cos they'll have to buy it!"

A week and a nocd crack later:

"Ow, that was silly."

It mirrors the ram cause both GPU's have to have the same data.

So unless a card with 4GB ram comes out, you'll only get a max of 1GB, or a single card with 2GB would be awesome.
