Dell S2409W 24" Widescreen True HD LCD Monitor - Black

Dead pixel:(

I got mine on Tuesday and it has a dead pixel right smack in middle of screen. I tried talking to Dell but they are unwilling to change it as their policy says I must have 6 or more... WTF 6+++???? I loved the look of the monitor and the picture quality, I would have to keep swaping between modes depeding on what I was doing. Only tested World of Warcraft on it at 1080 and was OK. Other thing that annoyed me was the lack of adjustement... couldn't move the screen up down left right only tilting.

Anyhow, I wish I would have tried saying that it had 7 - 9 dead pixels and got a straight swap, or do they check it first and then you get the replacement? Would this work??? Could I just call them back and say that now more pixels keep poping up and the monitor keeps blurring up???

My only outcome is to return it under the DSD and get another one. I got the monitor for £231 which means with return I will end up at almost £250...

I was also looking at the ACER P243W which seems to be better... has everything the Dell has, 2ms response time and is fully adjustable. All that for just £40 extra in my case I could have got the ACER since now I gotta pay for the return of the DELL:(

Also looking at the Iiyama Pro Lite B2403WS-B1 and the Iiyama Pro Lite E2403WS-1.

I'd call them back and say it's more than that i.e. 8 - 10 I think they do a delivery and then arrange a collection once you say your happy?

No harm in trying?

On another note mine arrived at work today :D in the boot of my car now, got company tonight soo will check for dead pixels tonight and do the rest of the tweaking tomorrow!

KK mate will try it. Thats why I wanted to be sure, if Dell does a pickup and replace at once. When my PS2 became faulty Sony simply picked it up and gave me a replacement at the same time which was great. The last thing I want is them picking it up and replacing it only after checking it...

Well just got mine out to check it with dead pixel buddy and there aren't any :D:D

Also minimal, if any backlight bleed.... very pleased!

@ Drei

They must check them at some point, and they will have a record of who sent them back, so i'd be a bit careful if i were you. Personally i would send it back under DSR and buy a new monitor.

Sounds like a plan but what are they going to do once it has gone all the way back to the warehouse and been booked in, booked out and checked?

Your choice at the end of the day, DSR is the safe beat but will cost postage...not much though..

I connected my S2409W with a HDMI cable one end (plugged into my XPS) and a DVI the other end into the monitor, but I didn't seem to get anything displayed?

Although Nvidia control panel saw the monitor I got nothing?

Should I be able to run ok with this config? Had the cable spare so gave it a go...

I've had my W2409 for about a month now - I absolutely love it!

I previously had a Belinea widescreen 20inch PVA panel, and "downgrading" to a TN hasn't caused me any issues at all. I can notice a slight reduction in the overall brightness and colour intensity, but overall the pic on this new monitor is excellent. I had quite significant input lag on my previous monitor and its a joy to use this new Dell which has none (well none that I can feel). It makes my PC feel like it's had a CPU upgrade! ;)

Viewing angles are absolutely fine. I have a very small amount of backlight bleed along the top and bottom edges, but its only noticeable when I'm watching a 2.35:1 movie with black bars, and the lights in my room are off. During regular windows use or gaming I cant see it even if I look for it.

No dead pixels. The move to 16:9 from 16:10 feels huge - this is so much wider. Much more so than the slight change in ratio might hint at.

I have an 8800GT and it has so far has handled all my games (except Crysis) at native rez just fine.

Blu Ray and HD-DVD films look very sharp - amazing detail. (internal PC LG BR/HDDVD ROM drive)

I havent yet gotten round to hooking up my 360 over HDMI... but I will at some point. The PITA being how to route the sound to something...

looks like a decent buy, been thinking of a bigger monitor to get things up to spec with my gfx card, 19" WS 1440x900 doesnt quite do it..

Nate, could you point me in the direction of that wallpaper of yours? :D

sorry for going OT but I also ordered this screen and really want that WP

It's actually 1920x1200 but looks good if set to centre. I get all my wallpapers from deviantart, if you search deviantart on google and click wallpapers under the first link it will automatically set your res for the wallpapers and theres loads of cool ones.

Hey man glad to see you finally got it and it's all good. I'm sure I remember reading in the manual only connect one cable at a time? Maybe you can only have 1 thing connected.

Hi Nate

I did only have the one cable connected? Got the HDMI coming this week which will be my preferred way of connecting the laptop to the screen... can't wait to try some 720p stuff out on it... :D

Guys

I'm having a shocker with hooking up my monitor to my Dell XPS via HDMI, Got it setup as an external display via Nvidia control panel but the max resolution it will display at it 1680x1050 which is the laptop resolution? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver lots of times but still the same?

I had it working at 1920x1080 then rebooted and now I'm stuck..grrr any idea's?

I'm all out!

Once these come back in stock will OcUK compete with Dell on the pricing?

Also just looking at using this for my Xbox 360, is this a good choice?

Indeed, £194.96 is cheap inc vat and shipping.

They only give you a 3 year warranty whereas ocuk give you a 4 year somehow.

If ocuk could do it for under £200 with a 4 year warranty, that would be brilliant.

Andy

Just ordered mine. Ordered it on the third and the provisional delivery date is on or before the 31/12/2008! That's the only disappointing thing really as I'm really looking forward to moving from 19" to this!
