Ruptured both Achilles Tendons

This could actually have been the cause of the problem, if she wears heels most of the time the tendons will have tightened up due to the angle of the foot in a heeled shoe. Then when you put the foot flat it over extends the tendon, this again is sadly not un-common and another good reason why heels should be reserved for special occasions and the bedroom.
This is what I was thinking.

I had a 5' boyfriend in my formative years and so tended not to wear heels even with dresses. I never really got used to them at an age when one typically would - and have since not wanted to end up shortening the achilles tendon, so indeed - heels are a party thing for me only.

I now have a 6'6" boyfriend! :D But heels are still not really worth it even now, as if I prop myself up another two or three inches he's still over a foot taller!

'Killer heels' are very much back in fashion at the moment it seems - we had a couple of years of the little flats lately...

All the best to her, hope she heals up well!

On a brighter note at least the fancy dress do at New Year is sorted.

SOme wigs, glasses and some padding for my lass and we have............

I think you should really be concentrating on the positive rather than the negative.

It may appear to have messed thing/xmas but only if YOU let it.

My sister used to live on a small island in the pacific, and just before I visited her, one of her friends was standing in about 18" of seawater and a baby shark came round and bit one of her achilles tendons...and while she's screaming and trying to get out the water, it came round for seconds on the other one.....yuk. She had to get dragged out by some friends and the sea looked like a bloodbath. Took the edge of my holiday a bit...living on a island and being paranoid about going in the sea

Very true and we will try. Hard today since it just happened. I feel sorry for her the most since she is going to be housebound for the next 3 months unless I or friends take her out as we live at the bottom of a hill. Not wheelchair friendly.
