Finished the last disc of gits sac 2nd gig last night and.......bit disappointed, wasn`t as impressed with this second series to start with but it grew on me:) but the ending was such a disappointment:( no closure or nothing
Will be getting solid state in a few days,i think it continues the story from here on?is that correct?

Yep, AMG S2 is pretty good and does tend to draw you in so that you end up marathoning it :)

Rewatched Maria-sama S2 yesterday .... so far have found three errors on the last disk. The one I mentioned above is the worst but there's also a erroneous out of sequence frame (Yumi smiling with her eyes shut, fram rendered in purples instead of properly coloured) at the end of the preview at the end of episode 10 (just before the English credits) and the English credits for the last episode have the VA for Yumi listed twice (which is pretty obvious as that's the first character in the credits).

hmmm .....

edit: Andarial, Yep I thnik SSS follows on from GitS SAC 2.

Hi all, sorry to randomly barge in and ask questions but I need a hand with this and you guys certainly seem like the people to ask.

I'm trying to make a music CD for a girl I know for Christmas, and I basically want it to be sort of a compilation of the best known Anime themes out there; nothing really heavy going or intense, I'm planning on throwing a couple of Advent Children tracks on there (the piano ones- please, no flaming for putting Advent Children in the Anime category) and I want them to fit with that- piano stuff gets extra points!

Hate to have to ask for help with this, but I don't know enough about the subject to be able to do it competently myself; I know she's fairly into the Studio Ghibli films if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide :)

so basically you want more instrumental type songs then :)
I would look at rozen maidens (fair bit of piano and violin/chello), venus versus virus (again a few are piano based on there), polyphonica (mainly instrumental type songs), air (tv) (some of this may work), eureka seven (niji aka rainbow by denki groove is a personal favourite of mine), simoun (has a french feel to it in my opinion), appleseed/vexille movies as you've mentioned advent children, probably consider looking at ergo proxy too.

Lets see what songs I would look at (quick check on itunes)
rozen maiden (well most of the album is probably suitable :)) -
Akumu by Mitsumune Shinkicki
bara no jibai by Mitsumune Shinkichi
Kodoku na Kokoro by Mitsumune Shinkichi
bara no chikai by Mitsumune Shinkichi

eureka seven - niji (aka rainbow) by denki groove

(not mentioned) burst angel - Shinjitsu no Kao by nishida masara

Air (ornithopter album) - Aozora by Shinji Orito - Magome Togoshi - Key Sound Label (beautiful song in my opinion)

Brilliant- thank you! Are these from movies or series or what?

mostly series but some do have ova's. Appleseed (the remake circa 2000 and ex machina) and vexille are both cg movies with a similar sort of quality to advent children (I like the film too).

I would suggest:
"I Do" - Ghost in the Shell SAC OST 2
"Sore Ga Ai Deshou (I Guess That's Love)" by Shimokawa Mikuni (Opening theme from Full Metal Panic Fumoffu)
"Karenai Hana" by Mikuni Shimokawa (closing theme from Full Metal Panic)

... in fact Mikuni Shimokawa's done quite a few themes, or covered others which are quite nice, (track 5 on her 9que album which I think is from Pom Poko is very nice).

I've probably got quite a few others that would fit the bill but most of them are off imported OSTs which arn't available outside Japan.

Just did a search for Ghibli on Itunes which returns a couple of acoustic albums. The Ponyo track from the Piano album sounds quite good from the sample and has the rarity value that the film is only out in Japan at the moment so she may not have heard it.

Also `sound wave of Stellvia` lot of instrumental tracks on that
On another note i spent the afternoon watching the `Aeon Flux` animé.........Strange is the best way to describe it,low tech graphics and did not to be any storyline what so ever,Not what i was expecting(saw the live action movie a few years back)
Anyone else seen this series/dvd`s?
Bit Adult with many `Nearly` boob and cameltoe shots, nearly but not quite if you get what i mean

Have the intention of getting aeon flux at some point as I liked the movie :)

It's got that more 'stretchy' look to the characters, like in the chronicles of riddick cartoon filler dvd or reign the conqueror (which isn't really coherent in some places in my view), which is I suppose is a more current style for western 'anime'. I'm 99% certain that it was made in the USA (for MTV) rather than asia hence the style (although reign was japanese!) which to be honest I'm not overly keen on myself.

I've got the Aeon Flux cartoon, I'm loathed to describe it as anime. It is a US series produced for MTV as Lsg1r says.

I bought it as I saw the film and thought that that was ok but this is a steaming pile of you know what. Primitive animation and poor story line, nowhere near the usual standard of things that we talk about on here.

Thank you for reminding me of it's existence though, I'll add it to my pile of things to be put on a popular auction site in the new year.

Phew glad its not just me who thought it was weird/bad and stretchy does indeen describe the cartoon images, glad i never bought the discs. It is nothing like the film, although i could see a few references to the series in the film, girl with hands for feet for example.
One for the recycle bin
edit: any of the `Aria` ost would be good for instrumental type music too, forgot that in my previous post

IIRC with Tenchi the Universe and Tokyo are separate from the original Tenchi Muyo OVA's.

I think it goes somethig like

Tenchi Muyo OVA series 1 & 2
GXP
Ryo Ohki

I'm not sure about the movies, but from memory one is definitely set in the TU continuity.

And just to confuse things further there is also the Pretty Sammy TV series, the Magical Girl Pretty Sammy OVA, the Sasami series, and the Mihoshi special which are (from memory) all separate spinoffs with no direct connection to the Tenchi series except for the characters.

Talking of Tenchi reminds me i've got the last disk of Pretty Sammy still to watch, along with the movies.

Well finished watching the OVAs, GXP and Ryo Ohki, (ok I'd been sidetracked by a few things here and there on the way). I think that the Ryo Ohki series was my favourite of the three with the GXP series a close second.

Very funny to watch with lots of fast paced action.

Need to look at the other series next ....

can we stretch the anime term and have a comics question?
comics
what is it about having so screwed up timelines?
I want to start reading iron man, where do I start and where do I go?

Comics = restart (new timeline) whenever sales go down/fans don't like where a story had headed/new writer/artist/editor takes over.

I completely gave up trying to follow any timeline in marvel/dc comics years ago, as at one point I was reading my BIL's comics, and collecting some myself and trying to keep track of about 3 different timelines at the same time, just for Cyclops, I won't even try to remember how many different timelines there are for Wolverine or some of the other characters ;) (some have iirc been "reset" in both the primary universe, and their own stories multiple times).

I would suggest if you're trying to read iron man you try one of the big trade paperbacks (TPB's), or omnibus editions, I think they've released a collected version of the first 50 or so ironman comics now (I know they have for the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, X-men and Wolverine), and those should be following a single continuity, as opposed to trying to work out how Iron man (original) ties into Iron man as part of the Justice League, and all of it's characters (most of whom have had one or more resets themselves).

Back to anime, and talking of Tenchi, I finished Magical Project S last night, and liked the last 6 episodes a lot more than the first 18, possibly as it had a slightly more coherent story for them, as opposed to monster of the week :)
I love the way that throughout the series the "sexy monsters" (IIRC that's what Misao calls them, she definitely calls them "sexy" as she says that in english) are translated as "lovely". Although to be honest I suspect that is probably closer to what the Japanese intended :p

I also watched the first tenchi muyo movie "tenchi in love" (TU continuity), which was good, but i'm now stuck trying to decide if I should watch the second movie (OVA continuity), or go straight to the third one as it's a sequel to the first, then go to the second...
And to think I found comic continuities confusing:p (although I think Wolverine on his own has more retcons than the whole of the Tenchi cast).

hmm wonder if I can follow backwards from the current iron man timeline to eirly stuff
question is, can I be arsed?

Argh! Cuteness overload ... watched the first disk of Little Snow Fairy Sugar yesterday afternoon, (yes it finally turned up from TRSI ... well it would have turned up on Friday but the delivery coincided with the only time I wasn't home) ... pretty amusing to watch though ...

Other than that I've been watching Clannad After Story ... hopefully ADV will license it after Clannad as you really need it to get the full story.

Edit: ANN are reporting that the trailer for Maria-sama season 4 is now streamable (link)
