Grand Theft Auto 4

does anyone know how to turn that blure thingy off?

can u add gta 4 to steam games every time i add it does not launch from there and gives error?

Very long thread so can some kind soul sum the game up for me as it stands in its present incarnation - as far as "is it worth buying" goes?.

From what I've read there are an awful lot of complaints. Is it as buggy and half finished as it sounds?.

Any patches in the pipeline to address the issues?.

To be honest, I'm having no problems at all. The game runs pretty smoothly on my spec, at High on 1440x900.

The more you play the game, you start to realise the gameplay makes up for the visuals (which are still good imo).

I'm enjoying it :)

It's worth buying, so long as graphics quality isn't a major concern to you, and you can appreciate that the game will get random slowdown and sometimes hang for what appears to be no valid reason. The gameplay (when it works) is good.

Yes, it is.

Yes, there is. It is currently awaiting validation from Microsoft.

Currently 11% through the story now and I am loving it, apart from the few graphical glitches here and there, I think its superb.

And this game is very GTA style, someone was saying it was too serious? LOL

I have it running at ~30FPS on med textures and it looks great.

No fixes have been (yet^) released by R*. Nvidia have released a driver that addresses some issues (performance being one of them, but not a great deal of improvement).

The servers seem to have calmed down, and no-one appears to be getting the inability to log into Social Club anymore, meaning that those related errors have now gone.

The outstanding issues (IMO) are shoddy graphics resource usage (very unoptimised), shadows, antialiasing, and random crashes that as of yet have given no error messages or warnings (has happened to me 3 or 4 times now).

ATi should be releasing their Catalyst 8.12's on the 10th, which has some issues addressed (mainly X1950 texture problems).

^Hopefully the patch submitted to Microsoft for GFWL validation will address at least half of the problems.

Other than that, no-one knows.

i dont get it. i got in in multiplayer once now when i try to get in team deathmatch for example i press on the server it shows loading and then puts me back in browser ?

Ok I haven't kept up with this thread due to lack of time.

But can someone just give me an update/summary of the graphics/performance/bug/crashing situation atm. ie. what fixes have there been etc. if they work etc..

thanks :)

Summary: first impressions were bad since we couldn't max out the settings due to the whole graphic memory issues, and their are a few graphical bugs/glitchs, flickering shadows (seen on ATI cards mainly), but now that 'most' of us have put this to one side and played the game it turns out to be a very well made story, and it has some nice physics too... though the damage taken eg: getting thrown out the window screen of your car and smashing head first into a brick wall only takes about half your life bar away... little unrealistic but its nice to be able to survive this :D
