So you can just wip out a drive thats in AHCI mode right, so why cant you do the same in ide mode cos both modes are the same, as in they have power running through them all the time and they cant tell when the drives are going to be removed, so surely when you remove a drive thats in ide or ahci mode they will both be in the same state when removed?? Or is it the connecting the drive up thats diff? I would have thought you would have a removable icon thingy in the taskbar tray so u can disable the drive before removing, but I havent a removable icon and im using AHCI.

So how do I enable the quick removel??

I want to know how can I get the removal thing in the teskbar tray for my hdds if its still unsafe just removing the drive with AHCI enabled.. Any ideas guys???

Got another prob with AHCI mode guys,, Im using true image 11 but the recovery cd dont work now, Ive tried burning another one but still no joy,, heres what it says guys...... Is there anyway around it besides changing it back to ide mode, cos I cant get into the bios with AHCI mode unless I use a ps2 keyboard

login to the acronis site and download the newest version of acronis, then make a new bootable cd

they made a real balls up of their testing it seems

i kept reporting all errors and they sent me 3 test iso's to test against ide/raid and ahci modes for my board before releasing the update

I give up whith AHCI and hot swapping, cos now when I disconnect the drive, vista wont let it disconnect, it says its in use, but its not at all.??

Apart from an External HDD, when does a normal user here need to swap a HDD while PC is running ?

I don't want to hear the total BS that someone's PC must run 24/7 outside of legit business/server use because I have heard it all before). ;)

Ive just read the reviews on that icybox, and you guys says it rattle in the docking station. I have a 1tb greenpower in my icybox and neither the icybox or docking station rattles. In fact I cant even hear the hdd when im copying and moving data around. So I dont know why all yours rattles??

Im going to change the sata mode back to ide mode now guys cos the only reason why I changed it, so I can hotswap my 1tb drive, but that plan failed. Plus in ide mode its a few secs faster at booting up vista too.. I AHCI can do hotswappong , can it hell, cos vista locks the drives so it cant be done... all I say is What a pile of crock,, lol

Thanks Bledd and everyone for helpping me on this matter, top guys.
