We need a war.

we may have at the moment (don't know the figures), but sometime in the future the problem may have to be addressed, and war as population control seems a bit extreme.

Yes but agricultural technology will make advances too, once we have a cheap source of electricity you could grow food crops in giant multi story buildings fed waterd lit and heated automatically even automate the harvesting process.

And since we have the technology to build buildings well over a kilometre tall we've got all the space we need.

Mmmm, just where I want my veg to come from.

Nice thread though am amazed that tin foil hat man hasnt been mentioned yet must be coming close to a record given this sort of thread .

resource wise there are upper limits until we start colonising other planets. We couldn't just keep building.

I've often thought about this before, humans seem to be about the only species that is heading back down the evolutionary ladder.
You couldn't be more further from the truth. We are constantly evolving. Evolving isn't just change to be become better at survival. Saying that, that aspect of evolution is still occuring too.

We're not running out of space at all, we're nowhere near running out of space O_O

It's just that people all tend to group together and live in small areas making it look like huge amounts of space taken up.
America, for example has HUGE amounts of land thats used for very little.

I do agree with the fact that evolution has seemingly gone out of the window, the way society is set up means that the useless and weak just survive off others :(

Edit: Would be interesting if global warming got a lot worse, though, because that would get rid of a LOT of the worlds landmass, wouldn't it?

The planet is nowhere near overcrowed. With current technology The planet can sustain many times the population we have now...

More illogical thinking and scaremongering.

Ok so we use technology to improve conditions and allow things to continue to grow, eventually completly taking over the land mass and all other lifes home we would have to expand out to sea and start taking over that, in the process completly messing up the planet and growing like a cancer we may have to leave, hardly right or fair is it?

Again this is a must watch for anyone in this thread, it shows growth simply can't go on forever short of leaving the planet which at the moment is highly unrealistic in any useful way and we'll have problems long before we get advanced enough, so growth can't go on for much longer tbh.

Not really, resource wise there's isn't really any limits on earth. If you use renewable energy/and/or fusion everything else is fine...

Also you can mine other planets, you don't have to colonise them.
