Good books

Just read Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton followed by the Artemis Fowl series, then the Northern Lights, Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass - finish off with the Diablo Archive ;)

Probably doesn't match any of the criteria but I enjoyed the Yes Man by Danny Wallace when I read that a few years ago.

Based on your criteria, I would recommend some Irvine Welsh. In particular Trainspotting (brilliant), Marabou Stork Nightmares (good) or Glue (good). The latter might be better suited to your 'coming of age' requirement, but I would take Trainspotting over any of his other books.

Another good one is The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks.

Also, American Psycho, whilst being a bit sick, is also a brilliant and thought provoking story, much better than the film adaptation - but aren't most books?

I'm sorry if requesting books of my desired genre makes me a "jerk". It's just that if people recommend books I have no interest in reading then I'm not going to read them. Hope this helps.

Thanks.

To be fair in your original post of "Good Books":

Recommend some please.

You didn't exaclty elaborate at that time what your preffered genre of books is.

Just thought of another.... this is a classic and should be read by any man with an inquisitive mind:

John Fowles 'The Magus'.

Are there any books suggested so far that do interest you? If there are then we could possibly recommend so more along those lines because at the moment you've just dismissed a lot of books without actually saying ones that might interest you. You might get a few choices by a very slow process of elimination but I suspect most people will have got bored at having ideas rejected long before you reach the point of getting what you want.

I have some ideas that fit with the OP's chosen criteria (as have some of the suggestions already made, if the OP bothered to show any interest in them) but having now read the thread, I don't feel compelled to provide any help to someone this pompous, ungrateful and ignorant.
