RWD Drive suggestions

Yup, as we've all seen, prices have fallen through the floor for pretty much everything.

This is currently up for 5xxx.

A very high spec car at a truly good price. That car will be immensely quick.

/Edit: Not sure if non members can see the For Sale section, if not let me know and I'll try and get the details + pics copied over. Basically its a black S14a running 350bhp.

Due to unforseen financial circumstances i am forced to sell my pride and joy 14a.

This car has been maintained with no exspense spaired by myself and the previous sxoc owners. some may recognise this car as rob.b's.

I believe this is one of the finest examples around for this price with around 7k's worth of performance parts. @ £5700 its a bargain and very quick with 317bhp at the wheels!

Id say 2nd gen rx7.

Very similar to the 3rd gens, just a lot less money. For £4.5 k you can get one with a rebuilt engine, a bigger turbo (plus supporting mods) and a respray.

will out handle bigger cars and good for 300+ bhp :D

Theres a bit more to it then weight, I'm sure it could be made to handle better then an MX-5, but, at what cost, 10k like the one above spent?

I just went by the largey bargey that you wrote, its not really a large car and 1260kgs isnt barge like. It is a GT cruiser and therefore rather on the soft side of sporty, if thats what you meant.

Aye, I'm not comparing it to a 7 series, but an MX-5.

Which would make the 7er an ocean liner by comparison :p

Either way though an S14 is hardly barge like compared to an MX5, its only 200kg or so heavier and much more powerful.

Saph cossie - some real bargains out there as people need to sell and struggling to shift them. Or an R32 GTST mate just bought one for £2800  and its really not too bad (until it goes wrong.)

Mx-5 without a doubt. The 200 is an option but imo the mx would be the better car as it has a better chassis to begin with, I found a standard Mx-5 more 'fun' to drive than a modded 200. The S13 is less bargey than the S14/a but they're prone to rust.

S14's are also prone to rust :( As an owner of a s14 I'll not try and claim it's not bargy but even in fairly standard form it's still fun on a track and a lot faster than a mx5. However 200's are that cheap now that for 5k you could have one with coilovers, uprated allignment bits (more important than the other suspension mods) and about 300bhp easily that'd be much quicker than a similarly priced mx5 on track and road.

A caterham 7 style car would still be much better for track work though.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will pass them along :)

We've been speaking today, he wants something that looks half decent as well if he buys a standard car and has decided to move away from kit car as his dad has just sold some land around his house that had a large shed/garage on where he would do the work. He also decided he doesn't want anything too big.

I think he is leaning towards the RX7 due to its looks and size, he thinks the MX5 is a girls car however one of our work friends was a member here and remembers 'freefaller?' having a 1.8 turbo'd one.

RX7 is a nice car, but I hope he has room in the budget for fixing it and rebuilding the engine, since the rotor tips are basically a consumable.

I was aware of the engine rebuild every 40-60K miles, not sure of the cost though.

It is something he will be looking into along with the suggestions in this thread :D
