Why I hate vista...

We've had this debate before Mr Tefal, like I say, if the only reason you use Vista is down to games, then you know it's a turd of an OS

No the reason i use vista is it does what i want. Linux does nothing that i want so therefore it is the worst os in the history of time for my needs.

Just like a wouldn't buy a transit van for racing.

You;ve never actually said why it;s a "turd."

The reason that it is a turd is because its OMG CORPORATIONS MAN BRING DOWN THE CORPORATIONS.

Its not cool in the linux world to have anything to do with M$ <--note the dollar sign for evilness.

Meanwhile in the real world it is best suited to 99% of people's needs, is stable, reliable, runs satisfactorily, has a huge software library available for it including many games, cutting edge driver support, and is very very easy to use.

Wasnt meaning to sound in any way patronising, i have no knowledge of your skillset. I (i think faily?) assumed that if you were actually stuck with a SP on vista would probably put debian out of reach! :)

No offence taken.. :) I wasn't stuck btw (I would expect you to laugh at me If I was) .. Just felt like showing why I really can't be arsed with Vista sometimes..

LOL It never gets old :p

It's a turd for soo many reasons, one of course is cost, the second is for support for developers, I could go on. I like an internal debate at my place about why we can't use Linux, and the answer was "becuase we couldn't assume new employee's would know how to use it" that was it, zip, everything the ONLY fault they could find was that newbies couldn't use it from day one.

So it;s a turd of an os because it costs a lot?

That's more of a criticism of economics than vista.

Everything thats expensive is crap then?
I could go on.

If there are so many it shouldn;t be difficult.

So it had one more fault than windows then.

The reason many places can't use Linux is because the programs that they NEED to use, simply will not run on it.

Please do, and please show me why, for the average user, it is a "turd".

As for cost? Not an issue, an average user buys a PC and it will have Vista on it now. If not, its £75 for Home Premium, which is a fair price to pay in my opinion for the vast software library it gives you access to.

To be honest that's a damn good reason to stick with Windows (of any flavour) over changing to Linux.

I'd be quite perturbed to start a new job and find that I had to learn a completely new operating system before I could do anything.

In fact, it'd end up having to be a requirement of the post and so cut down the amount of people who could be employed to do the job.

Everyone knows Windows (most people have it at home), not as many know Linux or OSX.

Moved over to Vista x64 recently myself and now much prefer it to XP - haven't had any compatibility issues with my games (granted I don't have many over 2/3 years old) and have only had driver issues as yet (which is a fault not of M$' making) with my graphics card.

Main reason for moving (other than having a new OS to play with) was to be able to run > 4 gig of ram fully - am running 6gigs at the moment.

What's wrong with Vista?

It's XP that looks better and has new features, and is rock solid in terms of stability.

I've always loved XP.. To me they have just taken xp tried to make it fancy but it means it hogs CPU and RAM..

I can understand that.. But I still think M$ are trying to Monopolise with their OS..

OPEN SAUCE FOR TAH WINXOZS!!!

Didn't you know, it's fashionable to call a Microsoft product "a turd".

Linux ftmfw yo.

Bill Gates SUCKS!!!! (M$ SUCKS!!!) LOLOLOL

Linus Torvalds = cool!!!!!!!!

So it had one more fault than windows then.

Firstly look at my sig the middle machine was running Debian until the MB "borked" and now it's in a shoe box. But I use all three major OS's on a daily basis (XP, OS X and Linux) so I think I can comment. Secondly gaming is a luxary in the real world of working for a living, so do I consider it a major factor on what OS I use - no.

Linux is by far and away the easiest platform to do Java development work on, if you disagree I suggest you try it. The number of in built text based commands that linux has built in (by default) makes a REAL difference, we all use them grep, head, tail, cut etc if you can find me an admin that wouldn't miss them when moving over to windows I'd be surprised.

Linux gives you a completely different level of customization. Windows (like certain linux distro's sometimes) hides all the detail from you, and that ****** me off. 70% of my software can be downloaded from a simple command (and freely) via apt-get or yum install.

Even better is the customization of the interface I can choose to have a simplistic interface for high speed work xfce or a more friendly one like KDE or a mixture in Gnome.

On the other hand, did you ever try and use XP64? My god, covering your penis in jam and waving it about in front of a rottweiler would be far more fun. Vista x64, vastly superior. :)

Just because you don't game doesn't mean that other people don't like to, a lot of them also seem pretty capable of holding down jobs.

Useless to the average PC user.

Useless to the average PC user. They simply don't care.

Meanwhile the rest of us can use Google. Which you have to do anyway, to find out the name of the software you want and if it does what you need.

Even better is the customization of the interface I can choose to have a simplistic interface for high speed work xfce or a more friendly one like KDE or a mixture in Gnome.
Feel I'm repeating myself here, but also, useless to the average PC user.

*checks task manager 6% cpu usage (with FF and media player open too), and 2.6 gb ram used (but that's cause I don;t have a page file on my hdd)

You know i don;t mind that it uses 5% of my cpu power, nothing else uses 95%, and when it;s using ram it;s nice an nippy cause my hdd is balls.

Works much ni9cer with 8gb and x64 than XP ever did, that was a nightmare.

I have 1gb of ram for a start... :p

I'm using a (£400 at the time) laptop :p

what's that got to do with the price of chips?

I never said you couldn't :/

Ok I know you've quoted me but you seem to be replying to somthing entirely different

Rigfht most people don;t need that customisation, and you still havent given more than 1 (very vague) argument against vista or any windows product.

Even better is the customization of the interface I can choose to have a simplistic interface for high speed work xfce or a more friendly one like KDE or a mixture in Gnome.

Right, so you'cve managed to post all that and not answer the questions.

You still haven't given a single extra reason why vista is worse.
