Not sure about the bike idea, worth a try tho , but when i did it I ran out killed 4 or 5 cops in the car park, stole a parked car and drove like a maniac.

I ran out the door, went to the right, through the hole in the fence and jumped into the water next to the speed boat

Was thinking about getting this game, but dont have an xbox 360 controller... is it still quite playable using mouse/keyboard?

sort of yes.

I bought this game thinking the controls will be the same as grand theft auto San Andreas but it isn't. Theres no option for mouse steering control. which is so stupid, also some of the controls can't be changed to the mouse buttons...

why did they change the controls?? i have 2 gta games (San Andreas and another one i can't remember the name) both are fully mouse supported and even can steer using the mouse..

tbh all game makers should fully support mouse/keyboard/controller in all games. because people like me can only use a mouse to use the pc and play games..

Well mine was running, but now won't load as it's got a Fatal Error - RMN40. Nothing has change for christs sake. Steam have told me to get lost, so I'm going to take it up with the credit card company.

Any chance an E2200 @ 3GHz, 8800GTS 320Mb & 4Gb ram will run this game okay? 1920X1200 will be the res can lower this as the monitor has 1:1 mapping so can run it lower res if need be, reason I ask is my brother wants to download of steam but is worried the PC won’t run it, any thoughts guys?

try escaping the cops when drunk its still easy but its hard not to crash

My game is screwed now lol
Everytime i try and play,It just crashes to the desktop,So i can't even play this!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is sooooo badly coded,I can play fallout 3 on high setting and have 60fps where as gta4 i only get 25fps with all very low setting lol

Thats RMN40= Windows XP: Need to have Service Pack 3 or higher to proceed.

I had the same worries before buying but I can't stress how enjoyable the game is once its running. There will always be people complaining no matter what the product is. I had 5 mates tell me the Dark Knight was rubbish so I didn't watch until a month after release and I completly disagreed!

If you're still unsure wait til the price drops and the problems ficed. Bioshock got some criticism (DRM etc) and I got it for £13 2/3 months after release.

Anyone know if its possible to "up" the texture quality setting somewhere?.

I can't get mine to move past Medium. Render quality setting is on "High".

Also, I'm using an ATI card, is there a way to either get rid of or tone down those flickering black shadows?.

Other than that, it's running pretty good for me at 1440x900.

What a nightmare of a release, Rockstar should be ashamed of themselves for releasing something so buggy.

I've had to uninstall Nero just to get the game running, buy a new graphics card to get semi-decent performance and after ALLLLLL that the game continuously flickers and pauses for up to a minute at a time, eventually crashing to desktop with an error dialogue box. Since release I've only managed to get to the first save point. Also, in this day and age it shouldn't take 5 minutes to start playing a game after clicking on the icon. You want to be in there running about stealing cars, not staring at a black screen wondering if your computer has hung.

I hope the patch fixes things, this is disgraceful for such a huge franchise :/
