So who is off bargain shopping at Woolworths today?

It wont be nothing like £10 off a £19.99 DVD, or even £20 off a £39.99 Xbox game. Thats just silly.

The bargains are like, 50p - £1 cheaper than the cheapest place on the internet thats all.

I went into a large woolies yesterday & they were doing 10% off all chart DVD & blu-ray, but I worked out they are 10% more expensive than the supermarkets in the 1st place! What's the point in that

I don't even know where one is in Manchester... but it'll be rammed full of people that are paying 50p less than internet prices... so what's the point?!
There isn't one in the city centre, there is one in chorlton and i think a couple of others spread around though

chocolate

and I thought I'd pop in to our local store to stock up on the Xmas choccies - damn looks like I'll be too late! :D

I think I'll go to the most out of the way branch I can find to see if there's anything left!

didnt it already start? my wife went to woolworths yesterday and got the sex and the city movie for a whopping 1 quid cheaper than ******* it had a massive 10% off
btw if you ge any realy good bargains take them to a shop selling them full price and say you lost the receipt but need to exchange it :P

i remember a few years ago some pound shop was selling videos for 1quid that were full price in hmv and virgin so my wife bought a couple to take back in the run up to christmas lol. she made 90quid in credit :D swapping videos that cost 1pound for full priced ones.

thieving *****

dishonest yes, thieving no.

they never lost anything they simply valued the videos more than somewhere else did ;)

I could care less that your wife was a scammer but I think you're kidding yourself there mate. It is dishonest and thieving, no two ways about it.

I am off to Woolies later, I always end up buying some peoples Christmas gifts and sweets from there. It will be a shame next year when it is gone but I believe thy have been on the slide for a long time.

The big problem is how do you compete against a big supermarket superstore which stocks the same range of general items you do at the same or cheaper price and more conveniently. Go to a supermarket and buy items while food shopping and jump in the car or make a trek into a town centre? Music and films are bought through the Internet, larger items and toys are got from out of town stores and the bargain junk items are now at all the Pound shops in every town and the cheap clothing at Primark!

As the supermarkets diversified and music/game and discount stores proliferated, alongside the growth in online shopping, woolies unforunately did little to differentiate themselves and in my opnion became a bit lost as to what their offer was.

In smaller toens rathe rthan cities, Woolies still had a use . ie.. In my town there are John Menzies, woolies, and a (9 isle) Tesco. No way will there ever be virgin/hoomv or any other shop. This is in a town with a population of ~10,000

Damn we don't have on in Leicester so I can't have a look and can't really bothered to go to Loughborough see what offers they have there.

pfft.. I stole a trolley's worth of £150 shopping from Tesco, I'm so cool!
