Weekend Soccerball; 13th-14th December - *SPOiLERS*

I think Arsenal will do very well to beat Boro tomorrow. We haven't beaten them since 04-05 and they've been a nuisance to us at home in recent seasons too. Plus it's an early kick off.....

Agree. I think we'll win but I think it'll be a close and entertaining game. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hull stick a couple past us.

Would love to see Keane score a few but if he continues the form he showed in the second half against PSV I'll be happy.

I'm hoping Hull score early on, normally going a goal down motivates the players, not like winning the league is motivation enough :/

We'll gladly take him back.

would we? id rather have the 30mil :D

of course if levy spends it wisely

but i do agree man utd shouldn't have bought him as they have no need for him
i reckon its a case of Fergie thinking "oh noes a top player at another club we cant have that" ;)

It's a case of Ferguson afraid to buy a striker from outside the EPL.

Annoying really as Solskjaer and Nistelrooy were hardly poor...

I think on paper Berbatov was a perfect addition to Man Utd; with Rooney and Tevez they had 2 great second strikers, the addition of Berbatov was to use him as a target man to hold the ball up and use him as a spearhead of their attacks. Although he can certainly play that role he is in fact a very similar type of player to both, he's just taller. He likes to drop deep and be a creative type forward, but he doesn't have the work ethic of either Rooney or Tevez. What he does have is both technical and mental brilliance though, with the balls to attempt and generally pull of moves that most players wouldn't even dream of trying on the training ground.

I still think he'll work out for Utd, just needs a bit more time to blend with the squad. If he builds a good understanding with Rooney that will become a frightening partnership IMO.

If the beeb are right about the injuries to both squads I actually fancy Spurs to get a result and currently at 10/3 I'm tempted to put some cash down.

Spurs I expect to line-up as this:

-----------Gomes----------------
Corluka---King--Woodgate-Ekotto
Bentley--Jenas--Huddlestone--O'Hara
----------------Modric-----------
---------Pavluchenko------------

Would give us some good options off the bench with Bent and Lennon as certain subs, with maybe Bale coming on for O'Hara or Ekotto depending on how the game pans out. Fingers crossed King is fit.

.

Sorry, but he doesnt have any of that, he is slow, lazy, cant pass, cant win the ball, hold the ball, head the ball or get into goal scoring positions.
Rooney and Tevez both score more goals than Berbatoss, and offer more to the overall team team perfomance than Berbanob.
;)
Seriously though, he is just simply too slow and lazy in everything he does, United are an epic counter attacking team, Berbasloths problem is that every other player in the team (bar fletcher and Carrick) is faster than him by a big margin, by the time he drags his lazy arse into the box Ronaldo, Rooney or Tevez has taken care of it, tie that in with his lack of will or ability in everything else he does, and you see what a complete waste of time he is.
If you have a situation that Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo cant deal with, then its a situation you cant "play" round, what we needed was a battering ram of a player for the odd occasions they struggled, and that isnt Berbanotverygood's game at all.

He isn't slow, sure he isn't explosively fast but then few players are that are his size. Lazy? That's debatable, he has a certain nonchalance about him sure and maybe doesn't pick his game up as he should when the chips are down. Comparing him to Tevez and Rooney with regard to work rate is like saying saying a BMW is slow compared to a Ferrari. Those 2 must be up there in the top5 hardworking forward players in the Prem. As for counter attacking, I think this is why Fergie bought him. Many times for Spurs he was our spearhead that Robbo would launch a ball to and he would trap the ball, turn and release Keane in devastating fashion.

15 goals in 36 league games last season, Rooney - 12 in 27, Tevez - 14 in 24. All similar rates of return. Once he fully settles and Fergie figures out a system I'm sure he'll be banging them in.

But you are right, he is no battering ram. He will win headers, but he is not really a player who uses his head physically - he uses it to outsmart opponents instead.

There is a good chance that Taylor, Huth, Riggott, Hoyte wont be fit and Wheater is suspended.

That means our defence is gonna get raped

van Persie and Adebayor are available again, apparently.

Doesn't matter though, cos we're DOOOOOOMed. Got a bad feeling about this one.

Also sodding the pub off cos it's raining :(. Probably a good omen though, since the last game I watched there was the Hull one.

Teams

Middlesbrough: Turnbull, McMahon, Riggott, Huth, Pogatetz, Johnson, Digard, Arca, Downing, Sanli, Aliadiere. Subs: Jones, Emnes, Alves, Shawky, Bates, Hines, Grounds.

Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Djourou, Clichy, Denilson, Fabregas, Song Billong, Diaby, Van Persie, Adebayor. Subs: Fabianski, Vela, Ramsey, Silvestre, Wilshere, Bendtner, Eboue.

No Aliadiere which is a shame i think Tuncay will be playing a bit deeper so Alves is gonna have to find some form

Arsenal have 4 CM's so Downing and Johnson will have to took in when defending but they should get loads of room on the counter
