So how many people are planning to move to Snow Leopard out of interest?

I am, for the OpenCL, however I'm also concerned that my 8600GTM will kick the bucket if I start using it!

Why would people not move to the newest and latest?

Also isn't Snow Leopard waaaay off?

I wouldn't dare touch a first-release Apple anything, especially an OS.
I got Tiger on release, and that was fine. I'm more comfortable getting 'first releases' of new OSX versions, as they are more tweaks than a whole new OS.

Skipped Leopard, as I'm on a Powerbook, and I don't really need the features of Leopard for the apps I run. Doubt I'll upgrade to Snow Leopard, as there'd be even less point, but it might be time to upgrade the laptop to a Snow Leopard one...

From my understanding Q1Y09, however I think that this will be released at the same time the new MacPros will - they'll need it to drive hardware sales in the current economic climate.

There's a 10.5.6 that I'd suspect would be released for either early December or New years given the christmas vacations.

Why would they release new MBPs only 6 months after refreshing the entire line?

I'm waiting for Nehalem to grace the MacBooks before I pull the trigger on a new laptop. I'm guessing Snow Leopard will be out by then so in that regard "yes" I am moving over.

Its the only way I can justify it to myself (new case, new innards, new OS) over my current 2006 white MacBook which has been a good workhorse. That came with Tiger, is now running Leopard but I don't think I'll be upgrading the OS to Snow Leopard because I don't see much point.

Well, I already have a partition with Snow Leopard, does that count ? :D

And yes, I am an ADC paying member, it's not an illegal install

I won't buy a separate retail box install disc, but will likely get a new machine that has Snow Leopard bundled with it.

Never had any issues with 10.x.0 releases, so I'm not bothered about installing new.

Ain't decided yet - if it turns out to be free for the new MB owners i'll probably take the plunge, but if not i'll have to take into account things like features, price, etc.

Hell yeah :)

I've never bought a retail release of Mac OS X, so I'll probably upgrade to a Mac Pro and get it that way.
