Grand Theft Auto 4

I wish people would stop comparing this to other games for performance issues. This game loads a massive city in one go. It has many AI routines for cars police pedestrians boats and maybe planes (Im guessing they run on rails). It may not have AA and it may not have very high detail textures. The main problem here is the poligon count is a hell of a lot higher then before yet doing what it did before. It also has a pretty good physics engine a good lighting/shadow system (well with shoddy looking shadows). The only other games you could compare this to are mercs 2, saintsrow 2 and the old GTA's.

My Q6600 4gb 8800GTX runs this very well. If a higher spec pc can't run this then there must be something wrong that isn't related to the game.

WHAT the man says :)

MoNkEyMiKeY what your FPS with your Q6600 as I am thinking of getting
a second hand on very soon.

Patch downloaded and installed automatically, seems to be working okay.

However I do object to the game software forcing the download and install before running. Surely it should be my choice whether I want to patch or not? Oh and it forces you to agree the EULA again on starting the game.

As much as I like GTA and indeed GTA IV, something seems seriously wrong with R*'s approach to PC gamers. They have always come across as a bit arrogant but this is getting beyond a joke. The patch has not done anything to change the requirement to log into Windows Live to save and load the game so they are still spying on my gaming habits.

Sorry don't have a clue. Its very playable. I will admit though it can slow down at night when its raining.

Edit:
Stupid sticky work kboard keeps missing letters!

Had my net down the other day. Live logged me offline and let me use my saves!

might be useful to those thinking about buying the game with a similar spec pc to mine.

i cant get 40fps on benchamark on medium settings with every other detail on lowest and i have 8800gt overclocked a lot.. that just shows how bad my amd x2 is :(

Looks like GTA 4 has caused my BFG 8800 GTX OC2 gfx card to die!! Came to boot up today and gfx card fan is on max and i get no display signal what so ever!
Looks like i'll be getting a new gfx card after xmas what with how long the usual RMA process takes.
So shall i buy a new gfx card now and sell the replacement on or wait?? decisions decisions...

For me GTA IV has always run at a steady 60 FPS, CPu usage at a steady 30%ish, The problem I'm having is the constant crashing & has increased after patching, the game eats up all the RAM I can throw at it, I'm starting to get rather wee-weed off now

Finally got the game running stable, 1680x1050, have to run with detail and rendering set to medium as high still crashes the game needing a hard reboot. Aside from the fact I can't use a controller and there are times where you get a sheet of blank texture covering roads and building, flickering shadows and random artifacts, it plays quite well!

Really getting into it, it's a shame it's plagued by such horrible issues.

Any hope for those of us using ATI cards?
