Virginmedia expected to make their 50mb announcement today

With the caps they have on their existing accounts, I cant see the point.
Hi Sir, we can give you a nice big fat pipe to the internet, but if you use it for more than a couple of hours during the day, then we will rate shape you down

Whilst I am not against rate shaping, they need to be clear in the adverts exactly what type of service you are buying and stop moving the goalposts. Their business service was promised as being unlimited, 2 months later they brought in rate shaping

too expensive for me to consider nagging the parents yet, will wait till it is more available, 20mb is fast enough for me now

20mb is plenty fast enough for me, I'd want to see the fine print of 50mb though, what caps are in place upload speeds etc.

As said before this could be good for all us 20mb users as the leeches will swap to 50mb.But lets see.

Let me know as I'd like another deal.

I have V+, another STB, Full TV bar sports and movies and full phone package and 20MB BB for £65

Just had a reply.

Virgin Media Customer Relations Executive said:
This month we are launching the 50meg in areas of Scotland, the Midlands and South London and by the end of January we are expecting to have rolled out the service to around 50% of our network. The remainder of the roll-out to our 12.6 million homes will be complete during the Summer of 2009.

As soon as I know when this will be available to you I will let you know.

Booooooooo.

And from what i've read. It is totally unmanaged, no STM, no caps, no shaping UNTIL it's been fully rolled out.

Same with me and my area was always 1st in past, now it seems they start down south but suppose as dudley was Trial area.

I'm in Glasgow area BTW and was only curious about STM or lack of.

I have a retention deal but its old and VIP packages are not far of it now and I hate TV now and lack of HD content means I got rid of HD TV and I can easily never watch TV as of PC.

I had perfect service from 512KB/1/2/3/4/10MEG then NTL took over it went crap, oversubbed/DNS issues, then they took on VM branding and gave out 20MEG when it could not handle all users now on 10MEG.

So I basically was told it would all be fixed but it ain't and I was going to leave after XMAS as retention means nothing as I would rather be paying full price for full service.

Staff took my E-Mail, so I can see later.

I would just prefer a good 10MB service with not throttles etc.

50MB what is the point if they sell you this and then slam you with throttling?

Marketing!
