Wetherspoons - burger, chips & beer

You can get some pretty good beers at 'Spoons, food isn't anything to write home about, and the big pub atmosphere isn't my favourite. I prefer the traditional pub (not wine bars which seem to be more prevalent these days) to these huge commercial ones

So generally I wouldn't choose to go to a 'Spoons pub, unless other people are going there

You'll find the same at fast food places though  If it's not microwaved it's deep fried.

Decent quarter pounder with cheese from my local kebab shop has always gone down well, and I can't complain too much about most of Burger King's offerings. Both seem a lot better than what i've had at Wetherspoons in the past.

EDIT - The Spoons in Falmouth is EXCEPTIONALLY good. Very very nice in there imo.

I didn't eat in there when I went but the beer seemed decent enough and it was quite well fitted out.

I haven't been into the local Wetherspoons to here for months but they're generally a fairly safe choice of pub, they don't do anything exceptionally well but are competent at the basics which is all you can ask for the price.

For what you pay both the beer and the food is good value, and it tastes alright to me. I mean yeah if i'd put £10-£15 down for the food i might feel a bit shortchanged but it's under a fiver, perfectly acceptable and i get a drink thrown in as well.

I've been to over 1000 pubs this year (probably 200+ of those were spoons) and IMO Wetherspoons is consistantly acceptable, and offer beter service and quality (for the price) than most other big chain pubs.

What do you do for a living? Pub inspector?

I prefer Spoons burgers to ones from takeaways round here. BK I can kinda see your point though it's not quite as filling IMO. BK burgers are microwaved though.

It was pleasure not business. I got bored of always going to the same pubs, so decided to see how many different ones I could manage in a year.

Not sure how many pubs I've been to in a space of a year, I always like trying new ones. I doubt it would be 1000 though

Well if that's true the fake flame grilled taste overcomes the typical microwave taste/texture. :p

They get grilled then held in a steamer, when they come out of the steamer the bottom half of the bun and the burger get microwaved :)

Someone has worked in a Burger King!

Forwhat Spoons is, you can't complain. Well, you can....We once went and got a few pints out of them as it took an hour for food.

My local wetherspoons does some pretty good curries on curry night. Curry and a pint for £5.09 every thursday and i have to say. In terms of flavour and quality of the meat etc, the wetherspoons one really super seeded a supposedly high quality Indian restaurant round here that provided us with a watery, bland tasting curry.

Other food there is rubbish, i had chilli con-carne on chips and the chili sauce had square edges (plastic tub) and was burnt in the microwave

Got a bangers and mash from a wetherspoons near home. Mash came out with sharp edges like a cube presumably from the container which it got microwaved in.

If you accept it for what it is (cheap and slightly nasty) then it's alright though. Could probably sort yourself a better meal with a microwave and trip to Iceland though.
