Had my Be service activated yesterday before the provisional date but it didn't take long to realise something is really not right. I don't know why, but I don't have much confidence in their ability to resolve the issue so I wonder if any one else has experienced this sort of problem.

So far, the line has been 100% stable. No dropouts and sync speed is 21Mb, but for no reason at all, the internet connection just goes. The line remains active but the connection loses the ability to communicate with the gateway. During it's "off" stints, it fails to query domain names and the local gateway (not the router, but the exchange) can't be pinged.

I'm hoping it's just a duff modem, but I get the feeling that if it is a problem with equipment at the exchange, then this is going to be a long crappy experience (I've been here before, just not the same ISP or problem)

Line stats incase you need them:

Have you changed your line profile in your members centre????

Optimise for speed
Standard setting
Optimise for reliability
Gaming mode on / off

Mine is set for speed, but because your's is a new line I suggest you set it to 'optimise for reliability'

Im with Be and had similar problems with them at first, the connection just used to drop out occasionally, it was quite bad at first like once or twice a day, then gradually got better and better until it was fine, i think its just when the line is settling in or something, i know 2 people also on be who had the exact same thing happen. Mine has been fine for ages now and im very impressed with Be, i find the support good aswell. Only problems i have now is sometimes the DNS goes down for a bit, but only very occasionally.

Do you have another router that'll do ADSL2+ that you could try? Does it work again if you restart the router?
My experience with the BeBox is that it's utter rubbish, but if you haven't got anything else...

I seem to be having the same problem at the moment, had about a dozen cases of the Be gateway not responding this morning though the line is in perfect sync.

Don't think my router is the issue, its been happy for the last few weeks but if it persists I might give the BeBox a go and then phone them.

It's rubish because????????????? you say so??? I have had this discussion with you before and you said the same thing.

I personally have had no problems with it what so ever. Not even a drop out.

I did say "My experience with the BeBox is...", so yeah, I am talking about what I've personally found with it, but it's not like my experience is so out of step with what most people say about it, or about Thompson routers in general...

Pretty sure back then I said why too, feel free to find it.

I'm not sure why you're so protective of the BeBox - the problems people have with many of them have been discussed over and over on networking forums.

I have also had problems with the bebox personally, very similar ones to the OP's.

Swapped it out for a wrt54g eventually and not had a problem since :)

I left it on the balanced settings for the first 5 hours to get a picture of the number of errors on the line any if there were any dropouts. After I decided it was perfectly fine I upped it to the speed profile with gamer mode enabled, sync speed increased and ping times lowered but error stats were within tollerance.

The funny thing is, it doesn't actually disconnect. The internet and broadband lights remain solid green during the hissy fit sessions

Unfortunatly not, all I have is the BeBox and no way of connecting it to the master socket. I don't know what idiot designed my flat, but they put the master socket in the airing cupboard with the heat exchanger some 35 feet away from a power point.

I've had 2 BeBoxes on other connections rior to this one and they've all been alright for my uses. As for resetting the box, it's hit and miss. The first few times this occured I did indeed reset the box and it worked, but then the last 3 resets didn't work so I stopped resetting it.

I'm not protecing the BeBox. I am saying I have had no issues at all.

Okay, fair enough.

So of the people commenting in this thread /re its stability, 3 (including me) have had personal experience with it being dodgy and 1 (yourself) has found it fine. That's the evidence on here so far and the OP can take that in whatever way he/she likes.

I'd also go so far to say that my personal experience has been with about 6 different Speedtouch boxes on 4 different phone lines.

Everytime I've had far better performance by just switching to a DG834GT and sticking UberGT/DGTeam firmware on there. Considering that Sky-branded GTs are available from an auction site for as little as £12 inc postage, it's a no-brainer for me.

If it's not broke why fix it? I know the op could try with a different router but I ain't had no problems with it.

When I was with Be in 2007 the BeBox was utter well....brown stuff my brother in law now has Be and its a newer box and it's still rubbish.

As for your problem get them to drop your sync
