Just put a deposit down on a New car!

Why are you all complaining? We need people who dont need to buy new cars to buy them to keep the economy going. He didn't come and ask for advice, in which case your sage passive/aggressive responses would be welcomed.

Well done for keeping another Ford dealer going this month I say.

The economy has bigger issues than people buying new ford diesels.

As for the exact purpose. I do a 100 mile commute every day. So yes, an efficient diesel is the right option. As for the 'no small car can handle a motorway'. Well, this isn't a small car. Its almost exactly the same size as the original focus.
Did you consider a 2nd hand diesel focus?

interesting reading some of these replies. At least it's got you talking and given a few of you a chuckle.

Before anyone else says that for a 100 mile commute they'd need a comfortable car, I suggest you take a test drive in the new fez. It's rootes may be a supermini, but this new version has grown up. As soon as I tested it I knew it was the perfect car to fit my needs.

Call me nuts but I'd prefer this to a couple year old rep car.

I plan on keeping this for a long while so residuals mean nothing to me. If you want to know the exact figures, with the extras I wanted I managed to get the car for 11384 which is a fair chunk off main dealer prices.

Feel free to suggest 2nd hand buys for around the same price range. I could have got loads of 'better' cars. But I didn't want them. This is the car I wanted.

If there was a 2nd hand one available in exactly the options I chose in the colour and model I wanted then, maybe. But I'm happy.

You're nuts :p

it makes me laugh when people say residuals mean nothing.

If it really meant nothing you would have ut a deposit on a V12 Ferrari or a DB9.....

I'm no car dealer or expert, and I certainly don't have the knowledge people on here routinely demonstrate, but 11k on a Fiesta seems mad to me.

You tout its MPG and reliability as if its going to save you money, but you have just spend £11k! Now just quickly, surely something like this

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/606236.htm

that costs almost half that, would save you an awful lot more than you will running the fiesta and be a much nicer place to be? Say you were to put the 6ish k saving you made (im sure you could get a decent car in this range for £5k with negotiation) in an ISA?

How utterly ridiculous.

Residuals are relevant only when you come to sell the car. You say this fiesta will only be worth 2.5k in 4 years time. How much do you think a 2nd hand audi a4 would be worth with the same miles on it?

All cars devalue.

Should have found a Honda Insight. TBH. Tis' nice that you get to drive a brand new car but I think a Fiat Coupe turbo would have actually cost less to run.

regardless of it being an odd decision....

I actually like the look of the new fiesta and yes, you dont need a rep mobile for a 100 mile round trip, i did it fine in a standard focus and a 306 cab, it was fine.

I like the new Fez too, but i wouldn't buy one, each to their own i suppose.

Nothing like false economy ;)

What model did you get? Top of the range Titanium 1.6TDCi can be had for £11,550 so hope the dealer got close to that. If you havent already signed anything I can get you £500 off whatever the dealers last price is.

The Fiesta is certainly comfortable on the motorway, but a bit noisy for me for the speed I drive, but definitely quieter than any other B car as well as smoother, it does drive like a larger car. Glad you didnt go for the ECOnetic, it has the same 1.6 diesel but you lose out some places.

What colour did you get?

Don't see anything wrong with buying new, if anyone remembers, I did and never regretted it (i got a hefty discount though). I see motoring as a pure expenditure, no asset, nothing to own, no matter how I pay for it, so if I buy new I dont care really about depreciation.

Right now its quite a unique car, well above any of its competitors, and well... you cant buy these used just yet!

GM they need all the money they can get.

I guess you mean ford but Ford Europe are exceeding expectation and have increased market share at this point of the year. We'd have no worries if we lost a sale :p (thats not how our chaps in the US would see it though )
