Finally been bitten by Paypal buyer protection (twice in a week!)

Sold an old cctv vcr "sold as seen", buyer recieves item, can't get the rewind to work, so takes it apart, does god knows what, can't get it to work and makes a paypal claim, explaing how he agrees it was sold as seen and how he's taken it apart, and paypal STILL say he can return it for a refund!

Sold a car badge, once it arrives the buyer decides he wanted one for a newer model (obviously the large photo in the listing wasn't clear enough), paypal have agreed to let him return that too.

I'd never sell anything on eBay now, it's just a joke. That, and people are thick and don't check things.
 
Never been bitten by them in that way, but they did demand i pay them £150+ for my account being in negative balance which they did btw. They harassed me about 3 years ago then stopped bothering me. They have recently started to harass me again, but im blanking them completley.
 
Paypal and eBay have turned into massive arses. Even if a transaction is successful the seller loses around 10% with fees.

I only use them both if I'm the buyer now or I'm desperate for eBay's audience size.
 
eBay and PayPal are nothing but a monopoly of thievery. If a high-street store behaved in the same way as those two did then I'm sure Trading Standards would've shut them down years ago.
 
I would go through the PayPal Resolution Center and get a proper claim/dispute with all the evidence you have. No point in discussing we us as we can't do anything about it.

I ended up being able to do a partial refund on an item one time because a small feature did not work.
 
Never used Ebay once in my life, and I don't think I ever will.

I would rather spend the extra bit and grab something new. While I understand most transactions are completed without a hitch, I just don't wish to take the chance. I will use HMV (I think I am allowed to mention them in this way? Can a Moderator possibly confirm this for me? (and not ban me :() for my music and DVD (or whatever store) OCUK for my computer bits, and so on always.

I don't like second hand goods now, and I just can't be bothered to go through any hassles.

This is the outcome of their paypal claims. The guy with the video actually says that he bought it "sold as seen" in his dispute comments.

I am always told that they side with the buyers. At work we had that exact problem the other day, it was a nightmare to resolve apparently (I didn't deal with it). I am amazed people still so blindly trust this service. (Not referring to anyone here, more a friend I know in the real world).
 
Well, ouch. And this chump never tried to contact you first for a resolution? Man, there's gotta be a way to keep fighting it if just for principle and not the money. :(

Funnily enough this exact thing happened at work, they didn't even bother to contact our company, they just go straight through Paypal. It is highly annoying, because they frozen the account apparently while they investigated. They didn't even wait to hear our side of the story.

We only offer paypal because so many people trust it, but after in the new year we are going to nuke it and just keep with regular card payment methods.
 
My ebay is going through the cooling off period before closure. I closed my paypal this week as well. Mostly because I don't use either anymore. I was keeping paypal though for a "just incase". But peoples reports of bad luck with paypal gave me the push I needed to close it.

I'm in a similar situation. They have just hired new debt collectors to chase them. Its not even worth speaking to them. They only hassle you more. They don't have a leg to stand on though, and can't hurt your credit rating so just blank ignore them.

It's not been tested, i can't assure it worthness 100%, so it is SOLD AS SEEN, the amount the person is then willing to bid is controlled (by them) with this information.

Its a phrase that means sold as is. working or not.

So if you buy something "sold as seen" you cannot complain if it don't work.

If you do you should not have bought it.
 
No, sold as seen means it is sold in the condition it appears in. It is actually not a particularly meaningful phrase.

It certainly does not mean untested/possibly broken etc. If you are auctioning something you have to describe it accurately. For a remote auction "Sold as seen" means nothing :/
