Misplaced my phone, now it's in the wrong hands.

I was in University today and I left my phone either in the canteen or in my trouser pocket and it slipped out when I was seated. Either way, I was careless and I deserve having to pay for a new one. I called it a few times, but it was switched off. I tried to be optimistic and convinced myself that it either switched itself off when it fell from my pocket and whoever may have found it kept it away before handing it in or that someone picked it up and put it off as they had to go to lectures.

Having just called it, it rang for a few seconds before being cancelled. I called it again, but its new owner has turned it off. It's not a valuable phone, it's only a 500 series Sony Walkman model, so it's not going to get them a lot if they're thinking of selling it. Oh well, my own fault. :(

I just hope they're not going to have any 'fun' with my contacts etc.

report it to the police as stolen and ask for a reference number, phone your network and have them block the phone, ask if they can blacklist it.

The "new owner" wont be able to use it if it's blacklisted, no matter what sim is in it

I was in University today and I was sitting in the canteen or I was standing in line, don't remember. Either way, I was lucky and I deserved to have a free phone. It rang a few times, but I switched it off. I tried to be optimistic and convinced myself that it rang as a wrong number and whoever may have lost it forgot the number before losing it.

Having just turned it on, it rang for a few seconds before I cancelled it. I turned it on again, but the old owner keeps phoning. It's not a valuable phone, it's only a 500 series Sony Walkman mode, so it's not going to get me a lot if I sell it. Oh well, not my fault.

I just hope theres some good contacts to have some 'fun' with.

Unless they eBay it to a buyer outside the UK :o:p;)

Yer contacts are the biggest pain. Would be cool to be able to hit the phone/sim with a signal that erasers the contacts list without actually needing someone to answer.

Makes me grateful for my Smartphone. A nice big kill switch right there in Exchange :p Almost makes up for all the bugs in the OS.

get the phone cancelled! using the imie number, phones are useless within 24hrs of being stolen so no point in stealing them any more

what you need to do is if you have the IMEI of the phone, call your network and tell them they will bar the phone from the network and all the major providers in the uk. There is now a database set up to do just that.
The new owner will then have to either alter the imei to use it or sell it to the people who ship them abroad as it will probably work there as the network providers dont have such a database as concise as ours.
job done !

You don't even need that, when I called Tmobile they just confirmed my name address and secret question and then cancelled it there and then.

Only ever happened once to me, about 8 years ago. Tiny Nokia 8210 was taken out of my pocket when I was a bit frazzled. Realised immediately and got it blocked so they couldn't ring up a huge bill, but that was before the days of blacklisting so they still got a nice little phone for nothing.

Most annoying thing was losing all my contacts.
