Your Top 5 Guitar Riffs?

G n R - Sweet Child O Mine
Pearl Jam - Even Flow
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Boston - More Than A Feeling
The Killers - When You Were Young

Do you mean "What It Is"? :p

Yes thanks - thats what i meant, not so ninja edit now carried out, In my defense I posted the thread after a few ale's, thats my excuse :p

Like others have said it is quite difficult to narrow down your five favourites, I initially had Aerosmith & Run DMC there, also quite a few Iron Maiden riffs as well. I'm also surprised no ones mentioned Hendrix yet

In no order:

Queen - Tie your mother down or Ogre Battle! Undecided....
Metallica - Master of Puppets
GNR - Locomotive (not everyones choice, but I love the guitar riffs in this track)
ZZ Top - La Grange (simple but brilliant)
Deep Purple - Highway Star

Damn this is harder than it sounds....

Oooh this is really hard, I'll go for most memorable and possibly famous riffs:

Hendrix - Voodoo Child (how has no one mentioned this yet!?!?)
Metallica - Sandman/Sad But True (Easy, well known, classics)
G'N'R - Get in the ring (thought I'd be different to SCOM and WTTJ and I love this song)
Joe Satriani - Satch Boogie (Intro at least)
AC/DC - Back in Black

Some interesting choices made here, though I'm not one for the more technical guitarists. Really like Jonesiani's choices, both '4th of July' and 'My own summer' are sludgy messed up riffs... mine right now would be...

Down - Bury me in smoke (intro and outro)
Free - Mr Big
Machine Head - Blood for blood
Portishead - Over
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile (slight return)

There were a few others but I couldn't get away from Kinks. It got in my head and stayed there. They were the first 5 that hit me.

Far better than yours, it doesn't need distortion, which is all metal is.

I agree, doesnt need distortion.

Thats odd, I can here each riff I posted quite clearly, must be something wrong with your ears.

Some...

Down - Bury me in smoke (intro and outro)

Ah good one!

The Seahorses - Blinded by the sun (intro)
The Stone Roses - Driving South
Cream - Sunshine of your love
Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
Kula Shaker - Grateful when you're dead

I could have wrote out 25+

Is it not Nuno Bettencourt?

Not the bit I'm talking about. It's mentioned in the credits.... playing style fits perfectly with DZ's style from discs like Confessions and Shampoohorn. Likewise, on DZ's version of "Stayin Alive" (with Donny Osmond) you can hear exactly when Nuno drops his bit into the pile of solos in the middle of the song!

Good call whoever said Soundgarden's 4th of July. I remember having the music book to this album and they use some amazing tunings. I think this one's some kind of C# variation. Love it.

Led Zepplin - Rock and Roll is another good riff. I played in a wedding cover band for a mates wedding and we did this one.

You really don't listen to much metal then do you. Metal as a genre is massive and you're trying to claim it's all just noise?

Way to be narrow-minded there.

This is Gilly here and he is opinionated. We have already gone over this before.

By all means, someone can call all metal crap if they like, but saying it was easy to play was a bit 'creationist' (previous thread).
