some good anime on over christmas by the looks of it then, and some of it on normal channels at reasonable times

Ouch, that's unlucky memyselfandi :(
I just got an email from Alyson at Rightstuf last night to make sure my emma replacement disks had shipped out, and received them this morning (odd timing:p), unfortunately I'm still waiting on another order that was shipped out earlier (damn Christmas post).

Tbh I haven't bother getting replacement disks for Emma as whilst it's in mono it sounds fine on my setup ..... only thing from TRSI I'm waiting for now is NHK Vol 6 which has slipped to the end of the month.

There's a few other orders from UP due to come out this month (Code Geass Pt2 LE, When They Cry vol 6) and a few manga books that _may_ come out, although I don't hold out much hope at this point, like the Genshiken book which was due out originally in July and has just kept slipping since.

Watched an ova called `Macross Zero` yesterday,an was looking for the rest of the related serieses,
not sure in what order to look for them
Anyone seen this?and in what order shall i watch them,i.e. storyline please
Not usually a Mecha fan but it was very high detail and it looked ace (1080 P)

ok working off the top of my head here although according to this wiki theres more out there than what I'm mentioning too :o
Macross zero is a prequel (it was made later but comes first) to the (robotech) macross saga (theres box set with 3 series in it), theres macross sentinals (haven't seen this, its damned hard to get hold of) which follows on from the first series (super dimentional fortress), different art and style though, of the box set, then its the next two series - Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross (bit of a side story really), and Genesis Climber Mospeada (more of a follow on)- in the box set followed by robotech the shadow chronicles (film) which is a follow on to genesis climber mospeada.

Macross 7 and Macross Frontier (2008 - 20th anniversary) are side stories to the series in most respects.

Think that covers the basics :)

Thanks lsg1r
I was using ANN and i could not find a chronological list there
That wiki is much clearer.Trouble is there are a lot more than i was expecting(i tend to lose interest on large series)

if you lose interest easily then I would watch super dimensional fortress (its the main plot really), skip sentinals (I never needed it, just want it for continuity more than anything), skip the cavalry southern cross (boring, no real link to the series in my opinion) and then do the genesis climber and shadow chronicles (rounds out the series quite nicely)

Macross Frontier is on my to watch list but it only recently been *cough* released.

One minor correction Robotech has nothing to do with the Macross saga except it used the same animation, and largely the same story (some significant edits iirc) ;)
Harmony Gold wanted to sell some anime to US TV but didn't have a series long enough, so they used 3 totally unrelated series, Macross, Southern Dimensional Cavelry/Souther Cross, and Genesis Climber Mosepedia) to provide the footage and dubbed/edited them to make them into 3 story arcs that together had enough episodes to fill a 3 or 6 month time slot :)

The true Macross time line goes something like

Macross Zero

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (the one Robotech used) - usually just Macross.
Macross Flashback 2012 (which is basically a music video telling the story in a very short order with Minmay's songs)
Macross Do You Remember Love - same story as Macross but told in about 90 minutes via movie form.

Macross 2 - although it's officially in an alternate universe as some consider it that bad :p (I quite liked it, at least the OVA version).

Macross Plus - OVA set on an earth colony planet as they develop the latest generation of the Variable Fighters, centres around a love triangle between the two test pilots and their high school love.

Macross 7 - TV series (and OVA's) set aboard one of the Macross colony fleets - notable as it has two of the main characters from the original TV series and their daughter (one of about 5 they had from memory), possibly the weakest of the whole frnachise otherwise (although the end song Dakato Baby is great)

Macross Frontier

Just to confuse things further, from memory they were produced in an other something like, Macross, DYRL, 2012, Macross 2, Plus, 7, Zero, Frontier - completely different to the time line in the story.

All of it is largely stand alone, but having seen Zero helps a bit as it fleshes out a character in Macross, and Macross helps when watching 7.

Persoanlly if you want to watch it more it might be worth picking up the original Macross thinpack from ADV in the states, it's about £25 and has the full original series - including both the new dub and original Japanese as well as some mildly interesting interviews (ADV got the original VA for minmay to play the English version of minmay).

Definately watch Macross Plus - it's got some stunning visuals, a good story and excellent music (it's a 90's OVA that has held up really well).

Then Frontier is meant to be good.

Unfortunately due to the very conveluted legal issues surrounding the Macross universe it's very unlikely we'll see more of it released officially, as Harmony Gold believe they have the rights to all Macross stuff outside of Japan due to a deal they had for the original series (although i've heard suggestions that one of the reasons for several changes in Frontier is to work around some of those issues - Harmony Gold trademarked one of the main logo's used in the original Macross, and has been using it as a club to try and prevent retailers importing Japanese Macross models).

Macross = good but rather confusing to sort out what is what, especially with Harmony Gold's marketing for Robotech.

I haven't seen much of the Macross but I echo the sentiment about watching Macross Plus ... I picked this up cheap ages ago when I didn't really know what it was and found it to be very good.

Rewatching the Girl Who Leapt Through Time tonight :)

I've been wondering, does anyone have any plans to watch any Christmas related anime?

I'm thinking I may put Tokyo Godfathers on tonight, then possible Love Hina.

[edit]
after talking about macross i've ended up putting my Plus OST's on, Bees and Honey (the one played during the missile test), Fly up in the air, and After in the dark/torch song are great - as is the Myung theme.

Well of course you need to refer to AoD :)

Just finished watching Girl Who Leapt Through Time again .... very good although the OST in the LE doesn't appear to have the sung version of the inset song from ~79mins mark ... may have to do some tracking down ....

edit: .... think the track is probably 変わらないもの which is track to on the single release of the theme in non-orchestral version unlike the version on the OST.

Just (literally) finished Tokyo Godfathers and I'd forgotten just how good it actually is.

It's given me an urge to rewatch Paprika, Perfect Blue, and Millenium Actress again (anyone notice that Satoshi Kon is rather like Miyazaki tends to reuse character designs?).

Garnet is the name of the single containing Kawaranai Mono. Damned if I can see it for sale anywhere any more though.

Good, that's what I've come up with too ... although the same artists 7th single also has a live version of the track on it (a sample is streamable from her website).

You can get Garnet from the rainforest site's JP store ... although it'll have to wait and be combined with something else as I'm not paying a 3800yen fedex bill for a 980yen CD ....

edit: about time ... I see that the latest Del Rey Manga newsletter indicates that the Genshiken book should be out at the end of the month, (originally due last July). More details on the release are here.

edit 2: and for those who don't know the track I've been talking about then the artist is performing it here

I ordered that on BR from TRSI ,had e-mail to say it has shipped on 2nd DEC,no sign of it as yet :(
probably be after xmas now

It's probably in the same shipment as my Agent 009 set (with tin case), and Fate//Stay thinpack :(

Oddly enough my replacement emma disks arrived after less than a week

My Sugar disks took ~4 weeks from TRSI so I'd say any time now really.

I've been very surprised that I've had 3 magazines from Japan come through in the last 7-10days taking only 4 days a time and that's only using standard SAL instead of EMS.

Aye, it seems that stuff from the US can arrive very fast, or will take 3-4 weeks :(

I've just given in and placed an order at TRSI for Niea_7 and the Nana 6/7, Niea because it's one that I had missed intiailly but is a Yoshito Abe one, and nana because it sounds like fun :P

If the exchange rate was slightly better I would probably have added the wistchblade bundle and a couple of other series to the list.
