Should run it fine, mine does (spec in sig, CPU's also @ 3ghz.), ive got it at 1280x1024, medium textures, highest renderer, view distance 20, detail distance 100 (max), vehicle density 30, shadows 1, and it looks great as well.

On the PS3 you could aim to gun with the right stick...not so with the PC X-Box controller.
In the end I had devise a system where I held the joypad in my left hand to steer and push down accelerate (luckily I have big hands!) leaving my right hand free to aim and fire with the mouse.
The same situation afflicts vehicular combat to some extent, though using the above technique is not applicable as one handed joypad doesn't give you access to the RH trigger to brake.
There's at least one more waterborne combat mission you have to "pass" in order to continue the main story, so get practicing!

So I've been playing this game for a few days now and I think.. well.. that I might be a wee bit hopeless at it.. I killed a certain man who's second name begins with an F
Now his comrad has burn't down certain places belonging to Roman

What is my spec likely to run at?

I couldn't care less if the gfx are set to lowest and res is low, i just been playing vice city and loving it tbh. Not even doing the missions, just spending hours going on the rampage
Yeah it should run fine. Got the same spec as Loadsamoney with 4gb ram and sacrificed view distance and detail distance to bumb up the res to 1680x1050 as I couldnt take the jaggies.
40-50fps during the day but at night driving hovers between 20-30fps.
An example of the driver-less cars I mentioned earlier. Through the sniper zoom - and this car wasn't that far away. It was driving along at that point.

How about sniper where the driver sits then? =/ Deary me.
Or, how about change the view distance so models are viewable at a long range, naturally you'll have to tweak everything else though to compensate.
Doesn't work. The driver isn't just invisible, he actually isn't there.

I just started up GTA this morning and Steam says its updating the game.. I get into GTA IV and all my graphics settings have been reset. I put them back to normal click 'Start' and it says my game failed to load.. 'Check Hard drive'

I had the same on Steam today with the update and the graphics settings being reset back to auto, but luckily the game works okay. Have you tried verifying the file cache integrity in the Steam options.

GTA IV sounds like a treat reading these posts. Can't wait to get my copy on Christmas Day lol 
Bah.. this is narking me off. I shouldn't have to pay for a game and **** around trying to make it load the chuffing saves.
I checked the games cache via steam and it did its magic. Loaded up GTA and the GFX settings needed changing again, I tried to load up the save file and it once again said "Check Hard disk" game loads up from the very start at the boat with Roman.
I pressed escape to see if the save file was there, and it was. So I attemped to load from it and the error comes up again.

I am having GTAIV for Xmas , but I am already playing it, lol
I said the disk may be faulty so I need to test it before it's wrapped up as it will have to be returned within 7 days if faulty
I then left just disk 2 in the box & gave it back to be wrapped up & when they noticed me still playing it I said it's just the demo verson
did the same with Crysis last year
How do you do the mission 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend'? I've tried it twice, both times Packie charges headlong into a hail of bullets rather than staying behind the car where there is cover. He is killed and the mission fails. I checked a walkthrough guide and it says 'luckily you have Packie with you to help' - ha! I would rather be on my own thanks, he is a liability.
