As per title, what's the most interesting, fun class you've ever played in an MMO? For me it's got to be :

1. EQ1 Bard - these guys were amazing, the ultimate jacks of all trades. You got to wear heavy armour, dual wield, and got a new song every level. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a class as much - speed spells, slowfalls, mez's, aoe damage songs and a load of others. And because the effect lasted a few seconds after the song ended, you could twists songs for multiple effects.

2. Not strictly a class as such, but the original skill system in SWG allowed for some really interesting characters. If you didn't mind spreading your allocation of skills around, you ended up with a toon that could do a bit of everything. I miss it :(

I would say any/all of my UO characters.

In particular though I guess the 2 which come to mind the most would be my non-magic using character. Never used any form of magic at all in all the 4 years I had him, no heals, no recall, nothing. Anyone who has played UO will know what affect not using any form of magic had on your play in UO.

And secondly, my treasure hunter, had everything needed to make him a real indiana jones style character for using the messages-in-a-bottle. High fishing, mining, mapmaking etc.

Asherons Call 1 - Battle Mage. Basically you can vuln, drain mana / health / stamina convert any of the previous to something else... i.e. stamina to mana. You can dodge, create portals, recall, etc, etc. making it a very versatile class. However it's not a predefined class you make it yourself by choosing what skills to specialize in. So realistically you could be a war mage with sword. It makes it a most interesting game and has the best skills / stats in any MMO bar none. None of this 'every class is the same' rubbish. You can individually up skills like your running speed, your melee defence, etc.

Me, RL.

Best class, I dunno I really like archers because they are tougher than mages but still do insane damage and the damage is usually physical damage which kills those uber PvP mages that are always in high numbers in PvP MMOs.

Althogh recently, WAR and WOW they have not been real archers. I DONT WANT A FRACKING PET.

But my final answer is that games without classes are the best, you seem to enjoy a char that can do everything. While classes can bring stratergy it is a basic way to do it.

EVE.

amazing :) used to have a knight on there that i played for 3 years and his magic was only high enough to recall, just because my 56k was laggy and took forever for me to run anywhere :D hehe god i want to go back on :( stupid paying monthly :'(

Definitely the bard in Everquest but also the tactician from Asherons Call 2, they couldn't balance it despite trying in every patch but it was damn good

Bounty Hunter or the crafting classes in Star Wars Galaxies.

Infinitely more interesting than any of that other crap.

Warriors in MIR, using the skill SHOULDER BARGE!!! great skill..

Some of the super heroes in CoH where fun to play, flying with laser beams for eyes was fun, or teleport with sonic boom - lovely.

Taming Black Mags in MIR always makes me shiver lol... never know if your going to get it or its going to go crazy and bite ya legs off lol..

Even when tamed, it can and will turn on you at some point lol... lovely...

Not really played many MMO's, but DAoC had a nice variety. Depends what mood I'm in. If I just wanted to pwn in a group, then fire wizard without doubt. Pure, unadulterated damage dealing. Easily the highest DPS of any class in the game, but comes at a price, dies quicker than any other class and has a only weak root for defence.

If wanted to get really involved and be busy busy, then Sorcerer. Crowd control specialist, have to be jonny on the ball with CC and debuffs, and demez your group mates too.

Solo play would be the Scout. Like a subamrine, you stalk your targets, then when the moment is just right, loose arrows into your target and run like hell.

Paladin for tank. Very busy. Probably more busy than the Sorc, ensuring you slam (and stun) tanks, keep chanting to keep your group alive, guarding your groups casters, etc.

I forgot about DaoC, really liked the Warden. Groups tended to pick you up for the shield bubble, but you could do an awful lot more. Ranger was good too, lots of scope for unusual specs that actually worked.

Good thread.

I always meant to try the EQ Bard but the twisting put me off. You could really tell the difference between a good bard and a bad one. I always loved grouping with a bard. Especially if we had to run somewhere! V-tec kicked in, yo!

Out of the classes I've played my fav has to be the EQ Beastlord. It's not that interesting, and hardly unique, just my fav. A mix up of Shaman and Monk meant I got to dual wield, buff, take a bit of damage and dish out a bit too with my wolf. (I actually fed him Halas 10lb meat pies, no joke. I wonder how much plat I've spent feeding him over the years). Slow was the Beastlords forte though, even though other classes did it better. Very self-sufficient, could solo a lot of stuff and the pet was just the icing on the cake.

In addition, in conjunction with the upcoming EQ 10th Anniversary celebration, SOE is expecting to add a new EQ server in March 2009 and players will be able to vote on a new server type. To provide your input on the type of server you'd like, visit EQplayers.com in January.

I'm going to be makinga new character on this new server when it is released, as long as it is all from scratch

Never had as much fun in an MMO as i had in everquest, the graphics might not be spectacular, but i enjoyed it more than any other :-)

Star Wars galaxies had so many unique interesting classes, far better than your average 'warrior, mage, rogue' kinda deal, they dont even compare
