Hi, I'm building a gaming PC as some of you may know, and I've bought the following parts so far

GPU: ATI Sapphire 4870X2 2GB
CPU: Intel Q9450

The following are my proposed specs. Please could someone help me URGENTLY by telling me 1). Whether these parts will actually work together 2). Whether I need any extra cables etc and 3). Any cheaper alternatives.

Here are the rest of the Specs:

MOBO: ASUS P5Q PRO

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

RAM: OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000 1000MHZ DDR2 Ram

CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (LGA775 Version)

Case: OC-UK Antec 900 Modded Version

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...x" Antec Nine Hundred Case - Red Fans (No PSU)

OR Thermaltake Armor+ MX VH8000 SWA

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Super Tower Case with Window - Silver (No PSU)

HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502IJ)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...nt F1 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502IJ)

Optical drive: LG....

So what I really need to know is, will a 4870X2 fit in those cases, will the CPU cooler fit, do I need any extra cables to connect the parts together, are these parts even compatible together, and are there any cheap alternatives. I think that Gigabyte do P45 motherboards which are similar and maybe cheaper than the P5Q Pro, if so can someone please recommend one to me.

Thanks and please reply soon, as I want to buy the products TONIGHT

EDIT: I've just realised that I forgot to show a PSU, could someone please recommend one for me, that will be able to handle the GPU and CPU, taking in mind that I will O/C the CPU ?

looks fine to me, although i would change the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (LGA775 Version) to the thermalright ultra extreme or tuniq tower esp if overclocking is planned for

Ok sounds good, but I've just remembered, and admiral Huddy has also said it, I forgot to put in a PSU  Are their any PSUs that you would recommend/think highly of ?

EDIT: Also, the thermalright ultra 120 extreme seems abit too expensive for my budget, and I'm already right at the peak of my budget :D Are their any cheaper coolers you would recommend

will depend upon how far you want to OC your CPU
WC for very high OCs
TRUE/tuniq tower for high OCs
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (LGA775 Version) for medium OCs

Hmm. Well the CPU is stock at 2.66GHZ, and I was hoping to O/C to 3.0-3.4, so would you suggest getting the TRUE/TUNIQ power ?

Also, I was hoping to pay £60 for my PSU, but since I won't be able to do that, should I go for this for £80

OCZ ProXStream 1000W PSU - 6x SATA 4x PCI-E - 3 Year Warranty

I don't think it's 'modular', but I have no idea what that means anyway, please remember that I am complete newcomer with PC's etc, and I am getting a lot of assistance from my friend when I build this PC :D

Huddy, your links are a bit messed up?

Story of my life - fixed!! :)

Just to give some idea how superb the freezer is, I had an Artic Freezer 7 on my overclocked Q6600. Running at 3.4GHz, the freezer kept the CPU at around 62oc. Not bad for a sub £20 cooler.

So If you were O/Cing a Q6600 at 3.4 GHZ, using the arctic 7 freezer, what kind of speed would I be expecting to get with a Q9450 with a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme  (At a Temperature of around 62 degrees, if that's stable)

Also, you recommended a 650 Watt PSU, would that be able to withstand such high overclocking, or should I go for the 1000 Watt OCZ ProXstream PSU (Not Modular) for £5 extra at £80 ?

I'm not a fan of the multi rail PSU's so I'd stick with the Corsair TX series. The TX750 would be my choice rather than the TX650 though either will run a 4870X2 and a decent OC on the CPU.

First of all - the 900 over the thermaltake, thats an easy one! (And yes it will all fit in there)

Secondly for psus - Go for the Corsair HX620 or the BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 650W. If you don't fancy either of these makes at least make sure you go for a modular PSU to improve cable management and consequently air flow. Edit - these will easily handle that system even if overclocked.

You will need a modular PSU in the 900 as cable management can be tricky. I also use a freezer 7 to cool my quad, it works fine for a 3.5Ghz clock :D

The top one only had 550W @ 12V so it's not in the same league as the TX750 with 720W @ 12V

There lots of room and lots of fans in a 900 case, just tie the cables you don't need up neatly.

You pay extra for modular, if you're on a budget stick with a good standard PSU.

The 900 isn't a huge case, I have one... and if your new to building PC's as the OP is I would want as few cables to deal with as possible. Spend the extra 20 or 30 quid and get a modular PSU, that's my advice :)

Damn :D I was hoping to save a few quid aswell. Is there no compromise between cheap and Modular, for example this PSU

If not I will have to raise my budget a little :( But I'd still like to hear your thoughts on that PSU
