Bourbon Whiskey.

While JD is a bourbon, it's very commercial, not very adventurous.

Do you have a local Whisky shop? http://www.whiskyshop.com/

They have novelty brands of bourbons that are a little bit different from your standard JB and JD.

Some can be pricey mind, but if your man is a true bourbon drinker, he'd appreciate it. I know I would!

Scott.

<pedantic>JD is not bourbon: it is a Tennesee whiskey. They are similar whiskeys, but the terms are legally defined.</pedantic>

Bulleit, Marker's Mark and Woodford Reserve are good choices though (assuming that it's not to be drunk with coke)

I'd recommend Woodford Reserve, too. Although I've never had it (I must find myself a bottle) I've seen numerous reviews and all are highly complimentary. Stephen Fry visited the distillery in Kentucky on his recent BBC docutrip to the States.

Usefull attitude

Anyways back on topic, does he drink it with coke? if so just get him a cheap bottle of JD as he won't notice the difference with anything more expensive. Most of my firends who ar bourbon drinkers are really just JD and coke drinkers and in the same way you wouldn't use a 10yr old dark run in a cocktail neither should you waste a quality bourbon in a glass of fizzy nastiness.

Perhaps you missed me recommend a good bourbon before I launched into my diatribe?

Have some  back at you. :)

Knob Creek.

However tell your brother to drink proper Whiskey made in either Scotland, Ireland or Wales.

None of that American crap. :p :D

So you'd be talking about Whisky there if he was buying a Scottish or Welsh malt. He'd only be buying Irish Whiskey.

Personally, I'd go for JD or Jim Beam. Both are lovely imo. Supermarkets sell a 750ml bottle for around 15-20 quid. There are a couple of other options but the only one i've tried is Bullet Bourbon (sp??) which is also nice but usually a bit more expensive.

edit - yea, Beam black label is cool.

Paid about 18 quid for Bulliet Bourbon, it was lovely while it lasted:D

Don't get him JD or Jim beam, they're common rubbish.

Get Woodford Reserve or Maker's Mark. Those are proper bourbons.

Thats a bit of an elitist comment :) Neither are rubbish, and JD isn't a Bourbon.

I would go with Makers Mark if you really want to impress him. Costs a bit more than 20 notes though

Was going to recommend this also, the only supermarket I've seen it in is Asda though @ £25.

I can recommend Makers Mark also. First Bourbon I purchased - usually buy Scottish Whisky - and was really impressed.
I am sure Sainsburys sell it.

I'll give another vote for Woodford Reserver, one of my favorite burbons, makes a fantastic Old Fashioned mmm. Bit gutted my mates went through my bottle the other week now, would have enjoyed one of them on christmas lol.
