hi all.

just changed my mobo(asus A8R MVP crossfire socket 939) cpu(3800 x2) and ram(2 gig ocz ddr) to a gigabyte ga-ma770-ds3 mobo, amd 6000x2 and 4 gig of patriot ram.

big deal you might say but! my copy of vista 32bit is an OEM copy.

everything went according to plan untill i started it up and tried to enter the bios so i could load from my vista disk after formatting my hd.

basically it didn't let me, it skipped the bios and loaded straight from the hd, then when vista loaded it then procceded to install all the usbs etc for the new mobo.

then about half an hour later when i made sure everything was ok(and it is:) the "new hardware detected, vista must be activated within 3 days" message appeared, i then thought **** here we go. so i clicked activate and hey presto within 5 seconds it was activated:)

now i thought you weren't supposed to be able change hardware just like that and for it to still work. also activate vista so easily:confused:

Just be glad...

it all works on a points system, and OEM's can only be registered for the manufacturer... Vista must still think its an OEM machine...

Personally I would have formatted, you have broken the OEM license agreement either way.

But all the drivers from your old system will still be there, going to be a cluttered registry.

I have never had problems with OEM versions when changing gear, dont know if they just say it to scare people buying into retail versions of the product.

oh well atleast it works:)

still wont let me into the bios though, how do i get in there apart from pressing delete??????

i would have re-installed too, its just cleaner that way

i'd also recommend you * out the whole swear word, i got suspended with even a warning lol

that was my plan, i spent about an hour last night saving stuff to disk.

so how can i re-install if i cant get into the bios to make my pc boot from the vista cd.

Is your keyboard USB, if so then it maybe the bios default for usb keyboard support is OFF, in which case try a ps2 keyboard if you have one.

it is a usb and i aint got or cant get a ps2 one.

i've loaded some of the software from the mobo disk and one of them is "easytune 5 pro" and looking at the hardware monitor is says cpu fan speed 0(which is correct cus i can see it through my case and it isn't moving) system temp 24c and cpu temp is 13c, how accurate is this.
the fan does start up when i stress the cpu though, like playing a game.

also tried core temp and that says core 1 is 4c and core 2 is 0?

Try unplugging all drives from the system. If it can't boot to anything it might let you into the BIOS that way. If not, hold a key down while powering on the system, and see if you get a keyboard error. If not, er, I dunno. Pull the CMOS jumper/battery, maybe. :)

Temperature readings may be wrong if your CPU/mobo is of a particularly new type (e.g. i7).

You can still get into bios with a usb keyboard its only after that usb legacy support needs to be enabled e.g. for the press any key to continue. Are you pressing the correct key to enter bios as it varies for every motherboard.

Or is it a wireless one?
