Google cancels staff Christmas bonus...but gives them a free G1 phone!

We don't get bonuses in our company, partners and fee earners gets 2 cases of wine, and the support staff get crystals glasses.

Perfect, you've get glasses to drink the wine and they don't :)

No bonus for me this year but only as I missed the cut off date, if I'd have started 22 days sooner I'd have got it. Worse thing is I was contracting there for 3 months previous, but I think it all even's out as the increase in wages contracting for those days offsets the bonus. But I'd still rather have had it in a lump now :(

Most people have dependants, so whereas you can live "well" on the national average, a family could not.

BS.
I know this is Australia but our "national Average" Is 64k a year.

I dont think i even know that many people on that much so my guess is someone is setting the Average ballance in the wrong end some how.

And either way my mum raised 4 of us on her own with very minor help from the welfare people in a salery of 25k AUD a year.

A lot of people do it on 40k a year.

A single parent could easilly rase a famly on 64k a year. it would be a peice of **** and have **** all money problems.
Get a Partner in on it and have them both on national average and it would be a walk in the park then.

The "National Average" is well paid. If you dont think then you have **** money budgeting skills

To be fair I wouldn't complain about that, least they are given something & if they don't like it they can always sell it on to make some money anyway?

I'd be happy to have a G1 as a gift/bonus.

no it is well paid, anyone could very comfortably live off that easily. hell its 10k a year more then what iam on as a full time worker.

£24k is not amazing pay at all, you say you are on £14k and work full time? That is very low..

A lot of people are like that though in factory jobs e.t.c, last job I was working I was getting 12k a year full time work as well. so 24k is amazing compared to 12k/14k :p

The UK != Austrailia.

Actually, I'm pretty confident in my chances by claiming that I am better at money managing than you (as I am against the majority of people). I still think it isn't "well" paid. You couldn't raise a family comfortably on £25k a year here, especially in the south.

I just don't understand how anyone can sustain themselves on that, as a part time maybe but full time? Outgoings must be minimal, I'm on £17k pa and thats just working weekends whilst i'm at uni and I just about cope.

People will Strugle but they can live off a fraction of the national Average. And im sure its the same for the uk aswell
No, it is not the same for the UK. You could not raise an average family comfortably on the average salary, which is why we have the biggest benefits system in the world, and are the biggest consumer of government benefit.
