Well its that time of the year again when I sell my whole PC off and then build another one. However what I was wondering is, normally when I go to sell my stuff it usually cheaper than when I bought it. However I'm going to be selling my Q6600 which I remember I bought brand new retail boxed for £110 if i remember correctly but now the prices have gone up.... bit strange considering its nearly half a year on and the i7 is out. Whats the big deal. (It is the SLACR G0) version but i'm seeing it for up near £140 now.

Its good for me as im hoping to upgrade to the i7. No reason other than because it makes more sense to me to sell everything i bought and upgrade every 8-12 months and spend net £100 to get the latest stuff than to wait 2 years and have to pay net £400 or more. Its a pain in the backside but its worth it overall.

Anyway i better start getting ready to go out. Happy new year everyone!!

Global economics, pound weakens thus we pay more for imported goods. That and Intel have probably discontinued the Q6600 now the i7s are about.

Wow quick reply, yea i guess thats true but you would think the price should still have come down due to it becoming dated technology especially since they introduced the 45nm chips. Although im not complaining.

Might have to try and get some friends to buy me some stuff in the states and ship it back here. Might work out cheaper.

I think he probably means the G0 stepping version. Or that its the super overclockable version.... ha - (think thats rights although never heard of that myself either)

Anyway just wondering if i get the new i7 920 processor, am i right in thinking my Tuniq Tower 120 will not fit the new x58 motherboards. If not are there any new air cpu coolers that will be just as good as the Tuniq but work on x58 boards. That thing was truely amazing. Kept my Q6600 at around 21C idle and never went above 35-40C under load.

The socket is bigger and the holes in the motherboard are also different. I had to buy a new water block when upgrading but it may fit, possibly with an adapter of some kind.

FYI it's not just the weak pound, all quadcore prices are up in Finland as well. Actually the prices have been climbing for few months now. While we're at it, the dualcore prices have gone slightly up in the past few months. Luckily for me the weak pound means ordering from UK is A LOT cheaper than buying directly from Finland ;)

That'll help us export... er... export... stuff.

What do we export again? Apart from "The Office".

Mostly thugs on hen and stag nights. Other than that I don't know but we exported £22bn of it in November which is a damned site higher than some would have us believe.

So yes, a marketing ploy.

If only i7 entry point was lower ... it would have crushed the prices of the current Quads :(
