Quad Core price Increase... Strange!!

Even so, it has to be said that you'd have expected the currency fluctuations to be somewhat counterbalanced by the natural price falls that you tend to see as technology ages. With the release of i7 it's somewhat of a shock to see the Q6600 priced at around £135. By rights it should be down under £100 or so before the exchange rate is taken into account, yet it costs around 50% more than that.

A similar thing has happened with GTX280 pricing (jumped from ~£240 to ~£300) however it seemed like they were somewhat underpriced at the time so that is a bit more understandable. That said, with the GTX260-216 coming in at ~£200 they should be dropping a bit I'd have thought.

i7 is not mainstream yet, and won't be for a while yet. Its release in the high-end market has no bearing on the prices of the lower-mid-end products.

Q6600's are still selling like hotcakes, and it has no competition apart from Intels own 45nm quads.

There is no business reason for Intel to cut its price by 30-40%. Certainly not until the new AMD chips show up anyway.

Well im getting a Q6600 G0 in a few weeks from a friend in the states when she comes over and its a lot cheaper than here, with the exchange rate i summed it up at £93 brand new, obviousley its more expensive over here as they are imported from the states, import taxes etc...

It'll be mainstream before the end of the year if Intel get their arses into gear and get a mainstream chipset to market.

superclocked, might of been a bit exciting, but what I should have said it was, it was guaranteed to over clock at least to 3.3 ghz. and at the time I got it I had an extra 10% off, and the difference in price was only £12, so it was worth it.

That'll help us export... er... export... stuff.

What do we export again? Apart from "The Office".

Meanwhile the stuff we actually use gets more expensive as we bring it in from overseas.

exactly my point :(

I'm guessing he means a cherry-picked one such as the one here at OcUK!

These aren't cherry picked, they are standard Intel Q6600s. However if they don't overclock to 3.3Ghz (which almost every Q6600 will do) then OCUK will swap it for another one.

Shame it's nearly all financial services and we all know how well they're doing right now.
