What Car for 3-4K?

Personally I think it sits very nicely at motorway speeds really, but no cruise :(

Fail!

Its just 4k won't buy a very nice ST220, so what are the real genuine alternatives here ?

So for a cheap(ish) motorway car would you consider an ST220 the only real genuine susgestion?

It's a £4k it doesn't need to be brilliant there are loads of cars I wouldn't mind driving 300 miles in on a motorway other than some uber fast Mondeo.

Just because a car isn't the size of a Five or have some sort of WMD under the bonet doesn't mean it's not going to handle 70 round the m25 for 2 hours each day.

Nah i never said that, its just the ST220 is a popular choice on here and was the obvious example to compare with as its a great allrounder that'd even pull "decent" mpg on a run. I'd def steer away from a 10+ year old bmw 7-series myself and I have absolutely zero knowledge of octavia's. Personally i'd get an accord type-r for 4k budget which is why i suggested it as it'd be great fun.

Does the ZS180 require you to wash yourself before driving, or just at specific intervals? :p

The latter :p

Love my ZS 180, but not sure I'd want to do 300 miles a week in it with my lead foot. Might be best looking at something more economical if you're doing nigh on 16,000 a year.

Well his petrol is getting paid for so why would a lead foot matter?

Plus if its all motorway 300 miles is achievable on a tank. *says the man who only got 220 out of his last one*

How big is the tank?

55L

Average of 18mpg....

*whistles*
It's my driving style, Dad borrowed the car and did a load of running around in it and the gauge barely moved.

Didn't spot the bit about getting his petrol paid for :) ZS 180 is the way to go :D You'll get a pretty new car for £5k.

Thats terrible. I average more than that in my ST220 and most of my driving is in town, plus im not the most lightfooted person.

Well i'd say the same but others would disagree.

An accord type-r is not hardcore tbh.

Can't say it'd be much different than the accord 2.0 we both have on a motorway journey, except it'd be more fun :)

err, motorways at 16k a year are not fun, you want something that irritates you the least possible ammount for the budget, this includes reliabity, equipment, comfort and running costs, I'd say the Mondeo wins over the Accord for the comfort and equipment levels, draws on the other two
