Does anyone here tip takeaway delivery drivers?

Only order from 1 place . Always tip as service is fantastic...Always under the time said on the phone . Very polite delivery man in traditional dress (chinese) and carrys food in heated bag . always get free prawn crackers. Also got a xmas card this year .

If we order from anywhere else i "might" do depending on lvl of service etc .

10% - 20% tip normally
I try to order something like 16-17£ then i just give em a £20 note

Generally the strategy is this:
1st time you are there, you give an excellent tip regardless of the service, smile, be kind and say thank you
2nd time you are there, you tip how much you think you should have tipped last time, so if it was rubbish NOTHING!
3rd time you are there they will give you good service because they remember !

But isn't there something wrong with this? I mean, surely you should be expecting a good service as standard?

But in London £16-17 is a 8" cheese pizza surely?

Yes, but only because the delivery driver for our local chinese is the owner - cliche Chinese guy. Remembers us and always chats and gives us free stuff so...

Exactly, this is why tipping is now a complete farce. It used to be you would leave a tip if the service received was exceptional and the member of staff went above and beyond normal expectations to ensure you had a good evening.

Now we pay people EXTRA if they don't **** up our order? What?!

Not a chance in hell

a) we have minimum wage
B) I only ever tip for outstanding service (beyond the call of duty), how would a deliver driver give you out standing service?

So you give him free money (as a tip) and he gives you free food? In effect you're just buying and he's selling?

If they are women then I definitely give them a tip. Usually my tip involves telling them to show more cleavage and wear their hair down. I kid i kid, its dirtier than that

I never tip anyone unless the service has been in some way exceptional and beyond the standard I expected, for lack of a better phrase "beyond the call of duty".

I also tip in countries where I'd get my drink spat in/food poisoned if I didn't (Egypt for example).

I am SO ordering a pizza...another 'Single Meal' as i'm in my student house alone. :(

I get 50% off on a collection.

Okay, that's fair I guess. I've never had a driver like that! 2.5hrs late is comedy...!

I had one a day late a few years back, called them three times during the evening to find out where our pizza was, after 2 hours and the third time of being told in 10 minutes we walked down there cancelled the order and went to the indian, GF phoned me the following evening to announce that the pizza had arrived, after we'd all eaten so it went cold. Muppets.

Delivery drivers round here tend to be miserable eastern European that can barely tell you how much it was, they turn up hold the bag in the air and mutter "twelvety pounds plez". So on that basis, no.

On the basis the drivers are eastern European and don't have a great grasp of our language you don't tip?

Oh what a great country we live in

Give him one good reason why he should tip. What extra length has the person delivering gone to to deserve it?
