Jonathan Creek - The Grinning Man

If her father was anti-semitic, why did he kill the secret Nazi?
He didn't. The father was the Nazi sympathiser, and hence the anti-semite. Eli Menkin was the guy he killed, who was Jewish (hence Jonathan said something along the lines of 'Happy Day' written at the top of a cutting of Hitler burning the Reichstag and knowing the guy we suspected he was working with was called Eli Menkin, I don't think they were working together'. Eli is very obviously a Jewish name.

The father was buried in the church with the inscription in Latin, leading Jonathan to realise that he liked using it and that the writing on the newspaper was in Latin.

And, to add to the evidence, his daughter (the old woman) said 'so my father was an anti-semite etc' to Jonathan while they were sat in the car.

Sadly, I found this epsiode disjointed, confused and lacking in credible charatcters. Still watched it all though.

Same, as much as I like Jonathan Creek this wasn't a good episode.
I've been watching some of the old ones with Caroline Quentin on DVD recently and they are much better than the one that was on last night.

Still beats most of the stuff on TV though.

I really enjoyed it even if some bits were a little unrealistic (see Vat of bodies and woman not really seeming to care) I really really hope they do another series!

But who got screen caps of Sheridan Smith Naked?

Never mind the plot she was hot in that and spent a huge amount of time with hardly any clothes on. lol I liked it

Sheridan Smith can't seem to decide what her accent is supposed to be. Half the time she sounds like she's from Chesterfield, while for the rest of the time she's talking like one of those slack-jawed Londoners to whom grammar and correct pronunciation are alien concepts.

She gets 5 stars for meeting and exceeding the slapper quotient, but this made it impossible for me to take her character seriously.

Odd that no one mentioned that Katherine Parkinson (Jen from The IT Crowd) was a guest star in this episode, and seem to have the same trait as that of Jen.
If you like Sheridan Smith, you can watch her in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
I recommend the Jonathan Creek Boxset, Caroline Quentin was the best assistant, but I think Sheridan Smith has been cast well in this, so looks promising if there are more episodes in the pipeline.
Criticisms aside, apart from Jonathan Creek, Royle Family and Wallace and Gromit, I cant say there was much else worth watching.

I'm watching it now, and she's just turned up. You're right, she's disappointingly typecast; I could have closed my eyes and imagined I was watching The IT Crowd every time she appeared on screen.

Alan Davies was the only one worth seeing. But then, he has the advantage of being a professional actor. I don't know what the other two think they're supposed to be doing.

Bottle Blond was just about as annoying as she has been in the few episodes I've seen bits of of 2 1/2 pints of lager, or whatever it's called.

Was a great episode though, other half enjoyed it too, she'd never seen or heard of any before (haven't had it out in America particularly.)
Some of the plot twists kept me guessing 'till nearly the end.
