Marilyn Monroe Picture

True. These days she'd probably only make it to being a plus size model for a cheapo catalogue or something!

And me being the hypocrite that I am, I would probably agree with that.

I think the Avril Lavigne, Kristen Stewart types are attractive i.e. tall(ish), thin, relatively flat chested (:o), preferably pale, long legs, long thin face, etc.

Thats basically standard model looks (on paper).

Liz Hurley (size 8) once said that she would rather shoot herself than be as fat as Marilyn Monroe (size 16). That says it all really.

Its better to be thin/anorexic and have achieved a shallow, pointless 'career' (that Hurley has) than to be considered fat (by modern standards) yet have achieved eternal sex symbol status and global movie stardom in films that people actually like.

Which again, I agree with. I'd take looking like Orlando Bloom and a fast route to money over meaningful achievements any day of the week.

Not that this has anything to do with the OP but there seems to be a misconception that she is bigger than she was. Going by her dressmakers measurements from when she was at her most popular her dress size would be 8/10 only her bust measurement was bigger.

I'm 34-25-33 and a size 8. Having said that though, clothes sizes differ these days, mainly due to being cheaply made, which I'm sure Miss Monroes were not ;)

Coming from a NIN fan.

What's that supposed to mean? Trent Reznor was a druggie and an alcoholic. Didn't stop him making good music, and now he's clean it doesn't either.

Maralyn Monroe took drugs and drank a lot, didn't stop her being stunning.

Where's the problem?

She really wasn't fat at all. I dont understand the obsession with wanting to be so thin you look ill (ie supermodels etc).

No, she wasn't fat, just standard.

Its inevitable people want to be thin nowadays, as younger people have been brought up purely on a diet of consumerism and countless images of perfection. Its unchartered terrority too, because its only recently (sort of 1980's onwards) that kids have become so used to it.

Mind you, the reality is though that obesity levels are also higher than ever for kids.

To be honest, these days, you're slated if you're fat and you're slated if you're thin.

I'm naturally slim and it amazes me that people think its ok to come up to you and say 'you're too thin, you need to eat more', when I'm pretty sure they wouldn't go up to an overweight person and say 'oi fatty, you need to cut down on the pies'.
