Migrants left out in cold as UK economy weakens

Good riddance,

When I did some temporary Christmas work at an Argos warehouse in 2006, the amount of polish workers there was astonishing!

But then it got worse, I found out that the agency in charge of the temp staff (http://www.randstad.co.uk/)

Had an office in Poland signing workers on temporary contracts (with polish wages) and using some loop holes in the UK law to bring them over with work permits and get cheap labour!

'Twas a joke tbh.

It really is as simple as that in your head isnt it?

You pick fruit/ veg, you get paid 25k a year.

The reason people DONT want to those types of jobs is that to earn that money its a 14 odd hour day in all weathers, in the middle of a field, doing one task all day, and your rest facilities are, if you are lucky, a mobile toilet, and if you are unlucky, a bucket in the back of the van.

As for the cleaning jobs, yes, they pay 7 odd pound an hour, for the 16 odd hours a week they want people.

It isnt as black and white as "british people are lazy, polish are hard working".

Well, actually, it is. And it is that simple, the British are used to an easy life. Lower-middle level manager jobs, easy as pie, nice warm desk.

The reason we find graft unappealing is because of our lazy conditioning.

After all, we're a nation of people that can be paid for doing nothing. It speaks volumes about our mentality.

These 'financial' experts you speak of, where can I find their workings?

Because it's utter tripe. British kids getting a poor education because they're a minority? How does that reflect on the level of education at all? If you live in that area, welcome to the real world. It's made up of people from different walks of life, people that live in different cultures and have different beliefs. If anything it would benefit children to mix with people who actually have values (beyond signing on) in their life.

The immigrants of present have condensed and minor statutory government rights and services. The problem in the UK is not the people coming here, it's the people that are here already, and the people that have warped perceptions on what their country owes them.

If a school is teaching Polish as the primary language, then the school is Polish. Did it ever cross your mind that the parents are idiots for sending their British kid to a Polish school to then moan that they’re not being taught British as a primary language? We have a Polish population, deal with it.

well you do put forward a good argument and in light of this i do retract my prior statement to an extent, I still believe that there is probably a middle ground between what you said and what I said.

Don't get me wrong i'm not a racist person but at the same time we have enough problems to deal with without an influx of foreigners exacerbating matters.

I do also realise that Dole scrounging and laziness are just as prolific with UK citizens and this is also a matter that needs attention imo.

as its not your child going to that school and getting a crap education because he/she is now a minority you dont care.

Protip: kids here get a rubbish education because A-levels aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Education in the UK isn't poor - university education standards in the UK are among the highest in the world, as evidenced by the presence of many UK universities in the 100 Top World Universities lists.

Well, no it isnt, and you are displaying to everybody your complete lack of experience and/or knowledge of everything outside of your own working environment.

I don't work in any of the sectors mentioned in this thread. I just have a good understanding of my own culture and others, maybe you should read up on it.

What problems? Apart from the religious nuts I'd prefer the foreigners to the lower class scum that reside on all these bloody estates sponging up off the government.

'Twas a joke tbh.

EU citizens don't need work permits to come work in the UK, that's part of the point of the EU...

Well it was some sort of silly paper work they sorted out anyway. :p

I just presumed it was some sort of work permit based thing, I didn't know about the EU thing.

*edit*

woo, post 1000

To be fair, Migration Watch's statistics are valid. Even the government admits it:

MigrationWatch said:
"I have made this point many times before but can we please stop saying that Migrationwatch forecasts are wrong. I have pointed out before that Migrationwatch assumptions are often below the Government Actuarys Department high migration variant". (29 July 2003)

An internal Home Office email they were obliged to release to MigrationWatch

I am no great fan of these people, but there's a lot of sense in what they say.

Where I work currently there a large group of Polish workers - all on contracts though as the agency staff were laid off just before Christmas!

The agency staff that lost their jobs are now being replaced with more agency people who don't have a clue what they are doing, complete waste of time.

One guy I worked with was only getting about £5.50 odd an hour effectively, after the agency took its cut and yet he was the hardest working of all the people on that floor by some way.

I would like to see more local people getting jobs there but the fact is they just don't want them ... the jobs are being advertised but the agency staff get them instead.

This is at John Lewis by the way.

The "they do the jobs we don't want to" is just laughable, how can you seriously believe that? I can't quote an exact source but i'm fairly certain i've seen that argument batted around to no avail on these very forums.

Get over it, They're cheap labour and probably do a better job then their British equivalents. It's how business works so stop having a cry and move on.
