Yo everyone,

I've been playing FPS and MMO's so much in the recent years, i tend to forget about the oldschool times playing tycoon games, like Transport Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon. Is there any recent ones, or upcoming? Or is it a dying trend these days?

Tbh it's dieing, can't compare games like cities XL and real tycoons imo, but I haven't played Cities XL so I can't make a judgement. It's 3d that killed the genre imo...

Every switch to 3d has failed for sims and tycoons:
SC4 to SCS massive fail.
Transport tycoon to games like Sid meiers railroads fail ( and others).
RCT & RCT2 to RCT3 = fail...
Theme hospital to some 3d hospital game I forgot the name of also failed.

Luckily RCT's still work and Transport Tycoon lives on as OpenTTD.

I do miss Rollercoaster Tycoon. Used to spend hours upon hours on that game. RCT3 was such a disappointment though.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2 are my most favourite of all the series. Especially when you try to emulate the real life theme parks around the country or the world. And then theres building ridiculous rollercoaster rides that will instantly make the customers sick, or just a hilarious way to kill them :D.

No idea how you can find just building rollercoasters fun. Looks and sounds so boring.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2 were simply excellent - it was so satisfying to create a cool theme park full of colour and rides. Any making good pathways, and facilities was fun. Watching the money roll in once you had made a wicked park was really satisfying.

Yeh definitely, I've got a save somewhere from RCT 1 on future park where I had so many rollercoasters and the like I was taking in millions :p
Was awesome :D

Used to play RCT1 on the XBox!! Played it more then I'm going to admit :D

My nieces play them, seems where the genre gone, simplistic kiddie games. Cities XL looks good, assuming they can deliver. An ambitious game from a company with no real track record.

I think RCT3 is an excellent game. I know it doesn't really bring anything new to the table aside from the graphics. But the game mechanics and the way you play the game remain almost identical to RCT1 and 2. This is good because lets face it RCT 2 was near perfection IMO. It seems sadly that Chris Sawyers' website was last update back in 2005 :mad:.

I'd be interested to know what people really dislike about RCT 3.
