Basically im looking for a cheapo satnav (no more than £75 really) and have found a TomTom V2 for £57 quid. Now I know they are upto V4 now but im just wondering if im missing out on a lot of stuff by just getting the V2?

I wouldnt be using it a lot, hense why im only willing to spend £75 but also want something that will get me from A to B without any trouble.

Anyone offer any advice about the V2 or any other cheapo satnavs?

Is that tomtom brand new, boxed? If so, they have the "latest map guarantee", plus they use TeleAtlas which is superioir to Navtek in europe IMHO (opposite is true in North America).

As you will have seen the item is a refurb rather than brand new.
On the plus side, they only use official Tom Tom spare parts and they come with a full 12 month Tom Tom warranty.

Not bad at all for the price.
You'll pay £30 more for a V4 One.

£75 is pretty cheap for tomtom although I got a brand new one in the shops for the missus at £91 before xmas.

I have never had a problem with my navigon, it has Traffic master, it has the speed camera database. We used to in France in the summer and never missed a beat, i recommend them.

Does the Navigon have a mph bit to show how fast your going? I know the TomTom does and its something I looked at quite a lot...

Yes, it shows all on one screen, speed, miles left, eta, direction, altitude. It also has the speed limit in the top left corner for the road you are on, then will warn you if you are speeding, it displays the speed cameras(displays the speed limit), the traffic light red cameras.

yeah but its not on the map view, its a separate screen isn't it? Its a deal breaker for me, all that info at the bottom of the tomtom screen is handy to have there, I don't want to be pressing buttons. Shame tomtom is so pig ugly!

Oh so u cant change what you have displayed on the main screen? So I cant pick and choose to have for example, my speed, time left and distace left? or something?

I don't think the TomTom One (v3 or 4) is ugly, bland perhaps, but never ugly. I still prefer their interface over the others too.

Pity they aren't going to bring IQRoutes to the one range (they state that the hardware cannot cope, despite people managing to hack IQR and ALG onto their ones).

Tom Tom is excellent. I think that any brand new tomtom unit for under £100 is superb value for money.

I mean the interface rather than the machine itself. Its wonderfully clear, but just not very pretty.

I've never actually used their software but I've never seen it done on a screen shot. I was going to get it for my n95 until I noticed it wouldn't do that. Perhaps the actual units are better but again I can;t find that info displayed on any of the screen shots.

Navigon, they use navteq maps, and this benign the latest version will be good. I have the older version and cannot fault it. Always takes the best routes, i am very happy with mine.

is there software very user friendly then? and are they good on there updates with new speed cameras/new roads/new route's and so on? be really handy for speed limit indicator and notifying you on speed cameras

We've got 2 tomtoms in house (none are mine) but when i borrow one i cant get me head around the thing!
