January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Don't Spurs learn, how many more sub-standard purchases are the board going to finance?

We've got to complete our midfield of overpriced Englishmen - Jenas, Bentley, Downing and ???. Perhaps we can win the race to sign Scott Parker.

Ferguson also revealed that United would do no more business during the transfer window. "That is the end of the transfer business," he said. "There will definitely not be anything else this January."

Fergie is going a bit senile in his old age...

You do realise the figures your using for wages are totally flawed right, not only where Chelsea on £132.8m, several of your other figures where wrong.

Lehmann
Ljungberg
Baptista
Lauren
Henry to name a few

Actually those WERE the numbers i was refering to, i was 10mil out on ours/man u's, hell I saw these numbers months ago, theres a 20million gap between us a pool still, still 50million rather than 40million more than Villa/Spurs and the likes who lets remember Bigbeard was saying we weren't spending and that the likes of Villa were outspending us. THAT is what I said was nonsense, so those numbers prove me right beyond a shadow of a doubt. For some reason I thought chelsea's was 100million because they tend to lose 100mil a year, i forgot they clearly have income to offset that, boo hoo. We still spend massively more than "the chasing pack" yet Villa are doing us this year with significantly less spending even if theres has increased.

Henry being the biggest earner I find doubtful, after all thats mostly the reason he smegged off, he was OUR biggest earner, but thats a different matter, no way was he getting more than the big boys at Chelski. Since then we've lost a few players, bought a few in, Adebayor's gone from 40 to 80k a week. Fabregas has gotten a much larger contract than he was on. Flamini was on next to nothing anyway, Hleb left for the money so it couldn't have been great here, considering he came from no where to a thrifty Arsenal the chances he was on high wages are slim at best. Gilberto probably was on a decent wedge though. Goalkeeper wise, to be fair I'm not sure what kind of saleries GK's get, can't imagine he was anywhere near a Gilberto/henry salery.

The point still stands, when that happened we had a 3mil defecit to Man U, while half their squad are overpaid England guys on 100k + a week, while Ade only this year became one of if not the highest paid at 80k a week and was on 40k the year before. The money was being spent elsewhere in the squad. Gerrard was no doubt 2/3 years ago on similar to Henry wages and probably more now than Henry ever got here.

I'm also not saying Rooney/Rio don't deserve the money, I'm saying England players at the top clubs tend to cost more in wages and transfer than foreign players. Rooney last year 120k, Adebayor, 40k.

So my point was we spend way more than Villa, Everton and the people challenging us for 4th, you helped prove my point, thank you.

EDIT:_ Henry at 120k a week would be at 6mil a year, I KNOW he did not get 200k a week(10 mil a year), he just didn't. He might have made 10mil with wages and all his advertising money from adverts and promo's, thats very likely, but he probably made around the 100k mark if that.

The more I read the more I think the Arshavin stuff is rubbish. No way Arsene would go through all of this nonsense with the agent and what not for what is an over-priced player.

So an Audit by the AST finds out the figure of £10 on Wages AND Fees, yet you know more. How so? He received £10m from Arsenal in his last season, end of story.

Of course you did the figures are 7 months old, they are of course the most up to date figures in the public domain.

I think you have missed the point I was trying to make. These are old figures, the only figures you can use. I would expect with the signings Liverpool have made they have risen, Villa too. Whilst our should have fallen/stayed the same with the likes of Henry, Freddie off the books. Yes players have come in, but they won't be anywhere near that wage.

So my point was we spend way more than Villa, Everton and the people challenging us for 4th, you helped prove my point, thank you.

Fail. Those figures are from 2006. Villa came 11th on those wages.

I really fail to understand why your aguing about high wages. Whatever you say about Arsenal, whether you like the club or not, you can't argue under Wenger it is a well run club, making money paying off it's debt.

Gooner14 said wages AND fees...

I wouldn't go as far as Pigeon but he's hardly awesome nor has he done anything (yet) to justify a £19m transfer fee. Imo he really needs to add some end product to his game.

Careful what you wish for. I remember people saying they didn't rate Ronaldo without an end product...:D

You forget, Drunkmaster knows EVERYTHING about Arsenal, every single detail he knows, hell he's even Facebook friends with Toure :p

yes i know but he acted like that was basically all from Arsenal, and his last post also suggests that what he thinks. the fee's being, fee for being in add's, personal apperances(maybe, dunno if he got paid to be anywhere) wearing certain boots and clothes etc. As i said ,thats a far cry from getting 10mil from arsenal itself.

Anyway, http://football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_4764219,00.html

just another person who seems to agree with me that what Gallas did was exactly what any great captain should do, fall on the sword, air the laundry in public so they had to actually deal with it and both Gallas, me, and Ade think Arsenal are a different side since that game he was dropped for this. We still aren't great but that single act led to Denilson being completely dropped as DM. But me, the unreal Arsenal fan supported Gallas fully, as do lots of the squad by all accounts(Almunia has also said what he did helped and he's still the leader even if not by name and everyone loves him), while apparently the real supporters all got on his back and called him a terrible captain, a crap player and most of you wanted him gone.
The 2006/2007 season was hardly ages ago, and we've bought in some high earners since then. But if you do the maths on the squad back then, the majority of the wages was going on an extraordinarly large reserve/youth squads than purely on the first team squad and that hasn't changed.

The chasing packs wages would have increased, sure, but not as much, I don't think anyone at Villa is making 80k a week, most not even close. Bigbeards point was that we aren't spending and Villa are spending more than us and have been for several years, I said that was complete BS, those numbers prove that.

We've also had those numbers up before, so not quite sure if he's intimating I was lying about talking about those numbers or not, I've spoken about them before as have others(who linked them in the first place) in some other thread. The fact i didn't remember with pinpoint accuracy the numbers doesn't change bigbeards claim, or the point I made. Transfer + wages = the clubs spending, you can't ignore either. With both we are a VERY high spender in the league and its as simple as that. Villa spending more than us is utter tripe, utter utter tripe. 8mil Rosicky, 9mil Ashley Young, much as I love Rosicky I know who got far more value out of those deals.
