Windows 7 beta - 9th January

is the download option likely to be very visable on the windows7 page or will we have to go hunting for it.

Why do I feel people will get really slow site access with the big rush?

Yay Server is too busy... :D

Do you not wonder if this download limitation is in some way to ultra hype the beta release and so then say it was a 'huge success' etc... then when it is released, the demand will be so high because of the existing hype that this limitation has caused?

what the hell are you on about?

Im debating whether to put a second drive in to my main machine and run it, using virtual machine will only emulate a 32 bit CPU which is a bit poo.

it's a full os

just burn to dvd, restart pc and pop dvd in, then install

Not required! Simply mount th disk in you current install with image mounting software and run the install from there! No need to waste a disk. If you dual boot like I am, there is no problem installing W7 to another drive in this way.

if the hash matches ms's, then it actually costs MS less for you to get it from a torrent!

not condoning it of course

There's nothing actually illegal about getting from a torrent though - the legality is bound up in the license, not associated with where it was downloaded from.

This is how i did it after i coastered 2 dvds, both came up with read errors during install , thought i might have to re download but this method worked fine

Only 2.5m can get into this beta, do you have to signup or anything to get a place? Im at work all day so will be unable to download it, if that's needed instead of signing up.

It should be on the Windows 7 page next to the Windows 7 Home/What's New/Videos header. They accidentally put the download link up just before Christmas: Link

The restriction on upgrading from XP is to stop people dragging all their god knows what accross from their current setups into the W7 beta. Who knows what rubbish may be combined with the W7 install to provide all sorts of issues. Personally, If I were MS, id have made the whole beta clean install only. Upgrading just opens up the possibility of masses of individual user specific issues

I dont remember them limiting downloads before, or is it just me?

They havent ever limited downloads

They have just limited keys. So there will be 2.5m keys handed out to joe public, and thats it.

In the past they havent really said hopw many keys are going to be released, its normally just a 'limited' number. I suppose there tryingt o make a big thing about there being 2.5m public beta testers
