Looking for a new football manager game, have just got one on the DS but its a bit pants and want a good one to play.

Not played anything since Championship Manager 2 (96-97season i think :p)

Will be played on Vista if that makes any difference.

I do really like champ 2 though, still install it occasionally for a season or 2:)

Now is that just the newest, or is it actually good?

Sell it to me, why is it better than whatever else is out there?

It's the newest, and because Football Manager IS the best Management game. Now this one is more of a challenge, and has 3D games so you can watch it in more detail.

What he said. Basically there are no football management games other than SI's. And this is the latest and most people seem to be enjoying it :)

Im in the same boat as the OP as well, I played CM yonks ago and really enjoyed it, taking QPR to Champions League winners. Ive been looking at FM for a while now, and Im a tad worried its overly complicated for my liking (especially after looking through the 'Official' thread on here). Im skimming through the PDF manual on the Steam Store atm and may end up giving it a go.

I did download the demo before xmas but found it very unstable. Umm Im still undecided.

Don't even consider anything other than Football Manager 2009. If you liked the CM series, this is just a continuation of that (under a different name).

It is fairly complicated yeah, but it is worth it for a great game (if you're into management sims...).
Most/all of the problems with the demo have been fixed with two patches so don't judge it on that.

Football Manager 09.

No questions asked, The best football / football management game about.

The football manager team, if i remember correctly were the same team that many moons ago made Champ manager, Then EA bought that and they jumped off the EA boat.

It's a fantastic game.
It's so life like its scary, I normally play as the team I go and watch and the depth and level is brilliant, You can get your team playing how you want them to play, you can bring in who you want. You can sell the dead wood.
You are the manager, you can attend press conferences, team talks hold meetings with the board.

In football manager 09, they have also added a 3D match engine, while it might not appeal to me, You might like it.

SI are the same people who made Championship Manager however the IP was retained by Eidos.

Argh knew it was something like that.

Brilliant game, what feels like 5 minutes turns in to 5 hours, its 4 am and you've still not sorted out your best 11.

I used to love Ultimate Soccer Manager 2 by Sierra, hard to believe its like 10 year old now.

Haven't played a Football Manager game since.

i too had this, and also the update with the dutch league etc! reat fun building the stadium into an 85,000 seater:)

that wa sa brief period after Champ from 94-95

Now, FM2009 is really what you want to be playing, the others are just imitations, or bad substitutes.

Championship Manager 01/02.

Simply the best by miles. Not the complicated mess that FM games are nowadays although I still enjoy them.

The old ones were good, but I don't think they're noticeably better than the current one, and it lacks a lot of features. Plus who wants to play with out of date player info?

Can you build stadiums etc in Football Manager 2009? or is it just totally based on the football side of things, maybe I need to do some research. :)
